I have both Mist King and Aqua Zamp misting systems and love what I can do with them. One problem I was having was the basin to hold the water. Aqua Zamp comes with its own basin and Mist King comes with a bulkhead fitting so you can create a basin out of any container. So I would go get my RO water in my five gallon jugs, haul them back home and fill my various basins. What I did not like about my solutions up until this point was 1) I could not see inside without taking the lid off 2) cleaning them out was a pain just because of how things were attached. 3) And then there was the mess of me pouring into all these basins.
What I finally did is just create my basins out of the 5 gallon jugs I used to haul the water home. I bought a bunch of extra jug lids for $.50 each and drilled 1/4" hold in the tops of them and snaked a length of 1/4" tubing down to the bottom and used this for my water draw. Now when I need to refill the basin I just unscrew the cap and replace the jug with a full jug. (I got extra caps because I still had to transport the full jugs home.)
The advantages were
1) I could see water levels and detect if any bug somehow made its way in there.
2) No more pouring water and the splash that comes with it.
3) removing the basin for cleaning is a snap. There is also less to clean because you are constantly refreshing the jug and there is no water left over or gunk able to grow slowly over time.
And if you do the rack system like many breeders do there are very convenient 18"x18" shelf pieces available that make the whole set-up very easy! The picture is of one of my rack rows with the mister. This was done with two 18" square sections. An Aqua Zamp is in the front and you can see a Mist King in the row in the background.
