Warm Welcomes and No Problems

Thanks for all the warm welcomes to my first and new chameleon, Reptar!
I'm really glad you guys like him and his name. He is very very friendly and sweet. He is from a high turquoise bloodline that stays high turquoise and yellow even when he's at rest. As soon as I took him out of his container he just quickly crawled onto my hand and made his way toward my arm. He didn't want to get off which was pretty cute but I had to put him in his cage after handling him for about 35 seconds because I didn't want him to get too stressed out. Honestly, I haven't had any problems with him and I really hope not to. He adjusted very very quickly to his new home. As soon as I set him into his cage, he just went exploring and exploring and I could tell he was happy and liking his new home because he didn't stop moving around. That made me very happy and proud of myself. After being in his cage for about 10 minutes, he stood on a branch in front of the door and changed colors right in front of me. He went from green to brown and I think I saw a little bit of purple on his head. That was my first time ever seeing a chameleon change colors and wow what an experience!
The only problem I am having right now is him not eating. I've had a few people tell me that is normal for the first few days until he begins to get adjusted to his house. I'm just a little nervous though. Other than that, everything is just going great! I've misted his cage 4 times today for 3-4 minutes each. The humidity in the cage have gone up to a little over 80% and the basking spot is right about 79-82F.
I've had such a wonderful day. Just incase you missed my last thread and would like to see pictures of Reptar, just check out my last thread :) https://www.chameleonforums.com/my-first-chameleon-here-101151/

Congrats on your new Cham. If this is the first day you've had him I wouldn't freak too much about not eating. Chams stress easily and shipping has to be very stressful for them. Somewhere on this site is a super post on the care of Veiled Chameleons. If I wasn't on my way out the door I would find it for you but I'm running late for work.

Also in the health forums you will see a thread "How to ask for help" There you will see guidelines on information needed to help others troubleshoot any problems or concerns you may be having.

One other thing, make sure your cham is able to get a full 12hrs sleep without interruption. Its very important for them and if they are disturbed during there sleeping cycle it definitely will stress them out.

Also keep in mind that wild animals (even captive bred chams are considered wild) can and will hide many signs of stress so as not look sick or weak as in nature that's ringing the dinner bell of predators.

Good luck with your new Cham, welcome to the forums.

Hello! Thank you so much for all this information. Don't worry. I have a binder and I printed out gutloading information and the veiled cares sheets (1+2). I also printed out all the items I bought for my chameleon and put them in there too. Haha yeah.. I'm a dork but I like to be organized.
Well I just found this out right when my timer ended.. My little guy has been going to sleep at 4pm pacific time but I set my timer for 8am to 8pm and I found that out about 10 minutes after 8pm. I hope that's not a big problem and I hope he would get adjusted to this time but it's the easiest for me. Thanks for the welcomes I appreciate it :)

Someone is a lil obsessive. Just say'n... :p :D

Don't worry too much about the difference in time. Just leave him be for a couple/few days to adjust and you're golden! He'll probably start eating by tomorrow. Just continue to provide water, this is most important right now.

Calm down. Deep breaths. Count to ten. Repeat. :)

I just gave him a wonderful 4 and a half hand misting. He is at his basking spot right now basking I guess.. He just has both his eyes closed and his little body is pointing up toward the light and his tail is curled. It's cute.
