Vieled vs Panther

I am going to move out soon and once I am on my own I plan on having something to keep me busy, a small pet with moderate attention needs(maintanence wise). So I chose a chameleon. This will be my first time keeping one, but I do have experience with reptiles and herps.

Between the vieled and panther, which one would be more rewarding
Im on a budget so... yeah.... but I dont mind having an imaginary saving fund just for a chameleon.
The only thing I will have with me is a couch, a tv set, a drawer, bed and a microwave so yeah I'll pretty much be spending most of my time occupying myself with this new hobby every night.

Well, I wouldn't say any chameleon really has moderate attention needs. They're more advanced in my opinion. However, Panthers and Veileds are probably the best starter chameleons, so you're looking into the right types.

Panthers have a lot more color, and are generally said to be a bit more "tame". However, Veileds are a lot cheaper than Panthers, which makes them a more popular choice for beginner chameleon owners.

To a zelot cham hobbiest, maintanence is advance because you guys think of them so much But like you said it is an opinion haha. Well I'm just seeing this as an experimental hobby. Don't get me wrong I LOVE reptiles and herps and used have quite a few a while ago. Panthers do look a lot more prettier though and I want to come home to something beautiful everday after school and work. Or I could just look in the mirror.

Veileds can be very pretty and colorful too. Panthers are great, but expensive. Cheapest Ive ever seen a panther, is 150 bucks. I paid 50 for my veiled and ive seen them cheaper.
Cham care is advanced, HOWEVER, when you get on the right schedule, its not so hard.
Lights go on, cham gets dusted crickets or roaches, gets misted 2-5 times a day. lights go off.
Not very hard, just got to be on a schedule.

That is why I chose a Panther. I love the exotic coloring they have. It really catches the eye. But don't get me wrong, Veileds look great, too!

Haha, how great would it be to look in the mirror to see yourself AND a cham? (even though you're not supposed to put a cham near a mirror, lol)

So, are you trolling now, or is this serious? Chameleons do have high maintenance needs compared even to most reptiles, but if you're just buying in the feeder insects and gutloading them for a couple of days, and if you have an automatic mister then you can get away with spending a half hour a day on cleaning/ feeding/ general looking after of stuff......once you have your routine sorted out of course.......be prepared to spend time and money on your beautiful pet
I would agree with everything Pilotman800 said. My Veileds don't like to get handled that often, a Panther would be better if you want that. I have my Savannah to play with if I want to pet one........just what is it you mean by moderate attention needs and which one would be more rewarding? What you give is what you get out of anything you do, right?

All chameleons are high maintenance, its not like looking after a Gecko and before you purchase do LOTS or research even more bringing he/she into your life. Better to have knowledge than to have heart ache and vet bills by doing something wrong or having bad husbandry.

I have both, panther and veiled, as a member said the veiled is cheaper and the panther more expensive. My veiled was £60 and my panther was £200.

For example once I created the perfect environment for the animal, all I would need to do, is set its tempurature, light and humidity, feed it, then walk away for a couple hours then do it one more time at night and not have to come check on it like a thousand times a day because I HAVE to. If I'm gonna check out something 1,000 it will be because I want to :]

They become VERY territorial, and if he sees himself in a mirror, he will get really stressed out and might try to attack his own reflection.

This is true, a Cham sounds like the ideal pet for you then, but you do have to factor in the looking after insect time, it takes a surprising amount of time up, even if you aren't breeding them

And about feeder insects, Im not too concerned about that. I have been breeding B. dubia roaches for about 2 years
Yeah I want something that isn't too easy (tarantulas/scorpions) or have something that requires 24 hours of my attentions(child/old people)

Well I really want a panther but after looking up price tags jesus christ haha. I'll have to settle for a vieled. They don't look that bad at all.

i dont think you should "settle" for anything. its probably best for you, but more importantly, for the animal, if you dont bother if your "settling" just because you cant afford the more exotic variant of chameleon.

also, chameleons are not cheap animals. you cant offer just one food source, and supplements and consumables all add up. then theres the huge issue of his enclosure and decor. without the financial backing, your chameleon will probably have a very poor quality of life. if i was selling them, i think you would have said enough for me to not even consider letting you have one.

i really dont mean to sound like an ass, and i dont know whether you think all this "troll" stuff is funny, not to mention your arrogance towards keeping animals, and ignorance towards proper husbandry and care, but have you ever wondered if your actually mature enough to care for an animal like this? i think its time for a reality check.

You can find panthers for $150 if you know where to look. There are a couple companies that sell them a little cheaper, like the Chameleon Company. Or if you don't particularly care, panther crosses are often sold for less. If you're just looking for a pet these might be a good alternative.
