Vet Visit Tomorrow: Exam + Fecal Test

Hey everyone,

Finally set up a fecal exam for my little guy tomorrow morning! Bright and early at 7:20AM

I caught a fresh fecal just now and instantly put it on a plastic tray and zip lock bagged it.

I'm worried that 7:20am would be a bit too early. His lights kick on at 7am sharp, so i'd catch him sleeping. Should i be concerned about him being too cold that early?

In order to get a fecal i have to have Jasper examined first, What do i do for this? What should i expect and how do i house him for the ride there? Box w/ branch? Maybe a few heating hand warmers?

Also how long does this type of stuff take?

Thanks!

Ok, first thing - don't be too nervous! It will be fine :)

He will be fine out that early, unless he spent the night in cold temps , waking up at room temp is not the end of the world. To transport him you can use a box and stab abranch or rod through it so that it stable. Then you can place a little towel on the floor (or just use a towel and not the branch)and that should be fine.

Usually a visit is never more than an hour, and usually not more than 30-40mins. Expect the vet to man handle your chameleon, but a good vet will not be rougher than he needs to be. Regardless, your buddy will not like it very much! But a check-up is vital, so it's for his own good.

Thank you so much for the speedy informative reply!

I'm just doing it for peace of mind...Hopefully everything checks out fine with Jasper.

I'll start making his travel box right now. You think hand warmers would help? I'd put them under the towel, ofcourse.

Good luck with your vet visit. I always used a small dog crate that i would place screening over the door and other areas where the chameleon could crawl through and escape. I then put a couple of branches in the crate as well as a silk pathos vine. I would mist slightly not too heavily before leaving and again after the appointment was over. In this way my chameleons never seemed to be overly stressed. Ruth

In sure your temps are warmer than ours. I placed a hot warer bottle wrapped in a towel under a plastic box. Everything put in a shopping bag.:)

Good tip, i'll be sure to bring a mist bottle. I have a pothos vine that i could throw in there aswell. I'm sure he'll be fine. Hopefully the stay isn't longer than an hour.

As of latley the weather here has been pretty hot...I'm not used to this lol. Mid-High 80's, Jasper loves it though outside :D

Oh my goodness! I know it's necessary, but, geez, that poor guy in that video was PISSED! haha Hope your visit goes well tomorrow!

Yea, that's a typical vet exam for a chameleon that needs to get thoroughly checked out. Luckily mine are all pretty docile, so apart from forcing their mouths open since they don't hiss or gape, they do really well with being palpated and injected with medicine, if need be.

It's just an hour of their lives, they'll hate it but tomorrow they won't remember it happened. If it's 80*F outside I don't think you need to worry about extra heat at all.

Vet Visit

$225 later and Jasper did pretty well! Didn't really struggle with the vet, wasn't too stressed out.

Vet said he's healthy and sounds like i'm doing a great job with his set up.

Vet recommended him getting a Vitamin A/D/E Shot and also gave me some Neo-poly-dex ophthalmic solution for his eye turrets, apply every 12 hours for 10 days. They were alittle sunken in, and i noticed he was rubbing his eye on branches once in awhile.

Fecal test results will come back on Thursday.

I'm supposed to email my vet daily and send pictures to update him on Jaspers condition.

I got some hypodermic needles for the reptiaid i was using, but my vet told me to take him off it for awhile and see how he does by himself. I got the needles so i could inject the reptiaid in my feeders.

So relieved! Just anxious on these fecal results, really hoping he's a healthy chameleon. Keep your fingers crossed!
