Well....there goes the neighborhood. I live in NYC and the center for avian and exotic medicine is my vet! They have a great staff and a fantastic facility. Just watch out with their appointment policy, tardiness is not accepted according to their website. I went late once without issue though. They do see a lot of animals there. the big 3 Drs. Pliny, Grodio, and Wilson are all very qualified and while I've never met Dr. Pliny, he's got the most experience. I imagine he's the big cheese as he's left to start other avian and exotic centers in the past. Dr. Wilson is my regular vet, and she seems very knowledgeable and they appear to see enough chameleons in their practice to put me at ease. Also as a warning, the vet techs are all nice, personable, and great handling chameleons, but I kind of doubt their knowledge in the chameleon field. Not trying to put them down, just noticed she was more knowledgeable about birds, but then again I don't know anything about birds so they've got me there. regardless they run the gamut as far as animals seen there, and are considered the premier exotic vet in the city. Back in the day, we used to just bring all of our reptiles to the animal medical center in midtown, but I've stopped as I figured a specialist was better in the long run. nothing wrong with their practice, but they've only got 3 exotic vets on staff and only two of them do reptiles. But keep them on your radar because they are open 24/7 and will take walk ins under emergency circumstances. As far as exotic pet stores in the city, the only good one, Fauna, just closed, so I am relegated to the internet for that, but if you discover a good one, hit me up, dawg. I'm not gunna be much help here, but there's also an avian and exotic center(not related) in Cherry Hill and a veterinary center for birds and exotics (confused yet?) in Bedford hills that is super experienced with chameleons I think the main Dr. over there Dr. Hess, started the practice to offer a knowledgeable veterinary practice for chameleon owners.. Also another guy right over the bridge in Jersey who used to breed chameleons in his spare time still trying to track that down so bear with me.
