my 8 month old panther just perches in his sleep spot 3 or 4 hours before the lights go off(they are on a timer) and i would like to know if anyone knows why they do this or what causes it.

What time do the lights go off, relative to sunset? - My experience has been that they're very aware of true sunset/sunrise, whatever we may do with artificial lights, and will time their days to match what's going on outside. I've also found with both my panther and the Jackson's I had before him that they would consistently head for "bed" and settle down up to an hour or two before sunset.

I'm finding the same as what hallenhe has said. As I only got my chams this summer, I was a little worried that they were putting themselves to bed earlier, despite their light still being on. It is getting darker earlier, and they can see light from the dining room window. Now they are even sleeping with the dim light in the dining room on. If your cham is otherwise healthy, I wouldn't worry.

Yea I got my lil guy a few weeks ago and he does the same thing...I have been waking up around 10 so I put the lights on at 10...and turn off at 10...for the first week or so he was cool with that. But now I find him wanting to hit the sack earlier so I wake up at 8am to turn the lights on and he gets ready for bed in his sleep spot around 7pm...So I turn off the bask and leave the UV on for a little longer, then turn everything off and hes sleeping within minutes.

yeah like right now i live in central cali, and its almost 5pm over here and hes been sleeping for like 3 hours now......
my lights come on at about 8am, and they go off by 7pm
