Very Disappointed in Repticon Baltimore

I went to repticon earlier with the hopes of seeing some chameleons.
I knew going in that there would mostly be beardies and ball pythons but I figured there would at least be one booth set up with all kinds of chameleons. In some dark corner there with only a uvb on top the enclosure there were some flapnecks and jacksons in 2 seperate enclosures but there was hardly anything for them to climb on and there were like 5-6 in each one with males and females around 8 inch total length. Now I dont keep these species so I dont know what is safe to house together but it just looked wrong. It wasnt a total waste I did get some feeders but I would have been better off just ordering them online and paying shipping......

Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking about going Sunday but was worried that it would be exactly as you described. Sounds just like my experience with a show in VA. Repticon is supposed to be the biggest show here in the D.C. area.... what a bummer :(. Wish I could go see the nice shows out west.

You and me both...If anyone knows of a good show out here in the DC Baltimore area please chime in and let me know where and when it is

sorry to hear that your experience at the expo wasnt a good one and that you left disappointed. dont feel bad about the set up you seen though. it's only an expo show, and the chameleons (though they usually absorb a good set of stress at a show) they can do without some of the essentials of a home set up (lights and decor). and i reckon there were only uvb lights, because the ambient temp of the conventional hall were warm enough for day or two long show. anyways, as long as the animals looked good, i wouldn't be disappointed or upset at all.

Agreed. FL Chams keeps their chams on display at shows in a very similar fashion, but only 1 a cage of course, but they deal in mostly Panthers.

I went to one in manassass and there was ONE chameleon.

Not at all, even FL Chams and several other forum sponsors/members that show chameleons will put young chameleons together and females together. It's a one or two day thing, they will not die if they are not kept in ideal conditions for a few hours for 2 days. You can't give them plant cover because they are there to sell, after all, and no one wants to buy something they can't find behind lots of plants. That being said, FL Chams and a few others do make more effort than others, their animals look great even in the temporary set-up.

I love that people complain about the chameleons at these shows. The chameleons may have several together in a cage, but they have room to stretch their legs. Have you seen the size of the little containers they keep the geckos, lizards, and snakes in? Many of them are in the little deli cups all weekend, but no one complains about that. Because it's a short period of time, they'll be Ok.
