Veiled temps at night?

Hey everyone

So what does everyone try to keep there night time temps at? W/ my setup its about 75 at night and 80-83 during the day. It gets pretty cold in my apartment at night (60-65ish) would that be to cold if i completely turned off my heater at night?

That should be fine, you may want to raise your daytime temps a few degrees. Also, make sure the basking spot is around 85-90.

When we drop into the 40's-30's at night I use a red night bulb heater to keep my guys warm. Now I also do not get much heat in the room there in due to issues with our unit so I keep the light to make sure there warm enough when we have a drop. Just a suggestion and it was given to me by the reptile store we have here in Jax I use!

Ya 50 is fine veilds dont mind to be a little cooler at night

Females don't need temps at 85-90. As low as 50 (even lower but I don't recommend it) at night is fine for a veiled. If it gets too warm don't use red bulbs as they can keep the chameleon awake and stress them. Use a ceramic heater or a space heater if your temps drop that's low.

Yeah I agree with Pssh on the space heater. There should be a drop in temperature but not too cold. 50 is the lowest (although it has been mentioned in previous conversations that they can go a bit lower) .. use your own descretion.

My veiled has a basking temp of around 88 .. some say it's too much but I keep her vine lower. Chameleons tend to move around their cage to varying temps. Just don't put them in a situation where their only option is close to the light. Offering many levels under the basking light gives your cham choices.

Another question. Does anyone have any suggestions on what soil/substrate I should use for an egg laying bed?

You should never use red 'heat lamps' for night time temp maintenance. You should use a ceramic heater if you 'need' heat.

Temps in the low 60s for an adults is FIIIINNNE and even mid to upper 50's is fine.... AS LONG as you get him warmed up well in the morning. Veileds can take some prety low temps, doesn't mean you should subject them to 40* weather every night.... but if you had to let it go that low he would probebly do 'OK'.

as for the egg laying bin.... sand and peet moss work great. you want more peetmost than sand... 60/40% mix.
