veiled male darkening up?

i can never tell what their colors mean. he seems to be a very dull green lately ( he is about to shed but he's been a brown/green for about a week or two) we've tried changing his bulbs and everything.he's eating pretty normally, drinking, doing the same old grumpy pose he always does. he used to be very bright vibrant angry green whenever we were around his cage now he's this color:

is this normal or is he not liking something?

How old is he? Some veileds will go through a phase of darker/brown colors as teenagers.

that might be it. we got him a couple months ago as a baby and he's in a "i hate mom" phase right now. he's just dark and grumpy.
