Mesnik, your guy passed? I'm sorry! Don't be affraid to get another one, just research more, and try to figure out how to perfect your husbandry and try to prevent it happening again. You did such a great job for this guy, it's just the disease took over, good luck with your searching!

Don't get discouraged from getting a new one. Maybe now might not be the time but from what I read, it seemed like you were doing all the right things. I might not be able to relate on losing a beloved cham but I can relate to losing a favored animal. I lost a freshwater stingray who decided to jump out of my pond when I was gone for the day and $300 worth of saltwater fish due to unseen parasites both were very devistating but didn't sway me away from an awsome hobby. Sorry for your loss and good luck to you, hope you don't leave the hobby.

I really fell in love with chameleons when I went to my local fish store and saw that they had added a reptile area... it was instant!
Some how I found this forum and after lots of reading, found a local reptile show were a few month later I bought a baby veiled from a local.
Looking at other breeders now, it seems like that one sold me Izzy way too young. He was bearly one month old!?
My next cham will hopefully be a bit older... And right now, here in Michigan is too cold to have anything shipped anyway, so I have some time to get my bearings back.
I will for sure keep "bugging" all of you here in the forum!!!!!

My sincere sympathy
We just lost our little guy at dinner time last night... Sucre
Sucre was purchased from a pet store about a month ago, he seemed to be adjusting quite well, he was eating and drinking on a normal basis.
His housing was perfect... temps, humidity, lighting, live plants etc...
Sucre became ill, or so we thought he turned for the worse with in a week, he would no longer eat, nor drink from the dripper. We took him to the Reptile vet Wednesday night, he became really fragile over the past few days. He gave us Baytril an antibiotic along with a food supplement which we were to feed him by syringe. We immediately had to re-hydrate him... he no longer opened his eyes, very weak from dehydration, and breathed through his mouth. As it turns out he had URI, which I'm sure was there when we bought him. Being our first, we had no idea what to look for... you live and learn!
Yesterday he took a huge turn for the worse, he had a bowel movement that had a hint of blood in it, when we went to feed him around super time, my husband was holding the poor fragile little guy in the palm of his hand and he had huge difficulty breathing, he turned to his side opened his eyes and took one look at my husband and passed away....
This was the hardest thing to see and go through, not only the pain that he was in prior but he was a part of our lives for the short time we have had him... I miss him so much!
PLEASE everyone, make sure you pay close attention to your chameleon and any signs of change have them checked !

So sorry to see that your first post had to be like this...
There is no words for when this stuff happens, really.
And you are right, sometimes we cannot do anything but we MUST keep a close eye on these fellas all the time.
Someone said something great: you have to learn their habits so when something changes, you are on it right away!!!
I am going to continue on the "hobby", hope you guys do the same!!

My condolences, friend. That's a rough ending to a sad story. Your devotion to your pet is very admirable. I can't fathom anything you could've done to help him any more than you did. Best of luck in the future with your new cham, though. We all know they're addictive like cigarettes, tattoos, and heroin. No one can just have one and quit.
