Veiled Chameleon keeping one eye open during sleep

I probably wouldn't chase him. I'd cup a hand around him to restrict his movement instead. Instead of using plain water to rinse/flush his eye, I'd try some gently warmed sterile contact lens saline instead. It will sting less. I'd also wear a colored glove while trying to corral him for treatment. Chams are very visual...that may keep him from associating your hand with the horrible "treatment glove".
I was actually considering something akin to this, as well as wearing something outside of my usual colors, in hopes that he may think I'm a different being all together.
I haven't been flushing his eye, just applying a warm compress to it (I'm not sure how I'd go about flushing it myself, safely)
Do you think contact lens saline is good even for that purpose? Is there a certain kind I should get/avoid?

Well, if you let some warm solution drip into the eye, that could encourage him to work buildup out of his eye by himself. And, it will lubricate the eye and keep residue from drying out, which will keep it from getting crusty and harder for him to get rid of.

As for which saline product, I'd choose one with the fewest added ingredients...such as preservatives. You'll need to handle the bottle carefully to avoid contaminating the solution.

A little update:
Spooble's eye is puffy/loose in his waking hours, but I got a pic of him tonight and he's closing this eye during sleep again :)
