Veiled Chameleon Eye Out of Socket?

Yes, it will look like the chameleon uses his eye to push it back behind his eye socket, leave him alone tonight and see in the morning if hes trying to rubb it.

I'd get him to a vet ASAP, if you don't know of any in your area, Banfield in Petsmart takes really good care of them, and the prices aren't awful. But poor dude looks miserable!! :( I hope he's okay.

okiroo...I have never seen a chameleon that had MBD have swollen eyes...and I've been keeping/seeing/studying chameleons for over 20 years.

BoopDoop and mgoulet... if a chameleon is cleaning its eye it will bulge the eye out like this but it will go back to normal in a short time. If its staying like this day and night, then its a problem. I've never heard of it going down when the chameleon slept if it was a problem. However...sometimes strange things happen.

Don't go to a vet, all they could do is cut it and drain out fluid, your better off just watching it for a few days, your welcome, if you have any more questions just ask. This is not mbd, I researched for days about this and ask a herp vet, it's a blockage in the chameleons drainage tubes in his eye, theres probaly nothing in his eye though.

i'll take you on that beacuse in much newer and none of my chams have had MBD so i dont have personal experience.

I don't have much personal experience from it either...but I have seen a lot of chameleons in 20+ years of keeping them and taken on a few rescues too.

This eye bulge happens when the chameleon lacks b vitiams, so you might want to get a supplement with b vitiams in it, it will help with the chameleons eye problem.

I remember reading that b vitamins will help the eye drain, don't know why it would help out but I added b vitamins and helped out my chameleon with his eye problem.

It looks dislocated, if my cham was doing that, I would try and "pop" it back into place. JMO. It looks like the chameleon just rubbed it to hard, and it popped through some connective tissue or somthing. If I couldnt reposition it, Id take it to the vet.

Please don't touch it, and like i said it's not out of socket. Kinyonga, it's kinda like your sinuses and when they block up your nose, ears, and throat get swollen.

I read this a while back, there is an article I read I just couldn't tell you where I read it, and I always back up what i say with lots of research. :)

I have seen one case of a blocked tear duct in a chameleon...but it was blocked by a parasite. I've never heard of the bulging being related to clearing that tube only bulging to be cleaned or because there was a health issue....so as I said, it would be nice to have proof of it.

BoobDoop, why are you so sure it isnt out of place? I can see what your saying and all, but why should it being dislocated or stuck behind an internal barrier be dsicounted here? It just seems like the most likely solution here:
Chameleon is fine, starts to shed.
Chameleon rubs its eye, and eye appears out of place.
Chameleon cannot put eye in place, as its obviously trying to do.

OP: Have you tried relocating it? At all?

It's called the nasolacrimal duct which drains from the roof of the mouth and when blocked can cause fluid to build up, still can't find the article I was talking about. Also soild snake, no I would not recommend relocating it if you don't know for sure thats whats wrong, it's happened to me before with my chameleon, he tore his eye from his lid when doing this but it healed up, the chameleon is trying to open up the duct so the fluid will go away, I think the chameleon would be in way to much pain if it was dislocated and wouldn't even try to put it back.

But Solid Snake the OP said it goes back to normal at night...so how could it be dislocated?
If it can go back on its own what good is it going to do to push it back in?

Valid.
The only thing I could say on this is, in a relaxed sleep state, the eye doesnt appear "bulged". When the animal is active, its in discomfort and holds it/tries to relocate it, so it appears bulged.
OP: Can you confirm that the eye goes COMPLETELY back to normal when asleep? Or is it still a little off?
Im no veterinarian, but I have been through nursing school, and am just trying to help troubleshoot this, with the knowledge at hand.
