hello..names katy ..new to this..
I want to get a veiled chameleon but have heard about different enclosure types and I was just wondering which seem to be better? ones that are all netting(I've been told bird cages may work) or glass ones with mesh top? also, fogger or misting, how often should that be done? just trying to get a feel for the expense of one.:)

It depends partly on where you live and whether you have air conditioning.

If you live in a hot climate with no air conditioning then an all screen cage is likely the best option. If you live in a cool climate then a glass cage with a screen lid and ventilation in the door, for instance can be a good option. There are pluses and minuses to both.

In an all screen cage it will be harder to keep the humidity and heat up but it will have better air flow. You may find that the chameleon spends a lot of time sitting under the basking light. You will have to figure out how to mist the cage without spraying water on the wall behind the cage and how to deal with water from the dripper.

In an all glass cage, you will be able to keep the humidity up more easily but you will have to make sure you don't let any water lay stagnant on the floor of the cage and although there will still be airflow, it won't be as good as it would in a screen cage.

Hope that helps!

thank you..
i think im gonna go with one thats glass and mesh.. i have long winters so keeping heat and humidity up may be a bigger issue with an all mesh one..thanks again

Get a Umbrella Tree, they are awesome for misting, and can handle the temps, they also grow very full, its a great way to keep the humidity levels up in a screen enclosure
