Veild Chameleon or Panther...

I just got in contact with a breeder in my area. At the local herp show this May he will be selling Jackson, Veild, and Panther chameleons...I do love the coloration of the Panther chameleons...and the enclosure I am building should be big enough to house him/her for a while (2'x2'x4'). Are Panthers much harder to care for than Veild chameleons? Does anyone have a Panther and could help me out?( I was originally going to get a Veild Chameleon)

I have both. 2 veileds, 1 panther.
In all honesty, their care is exactly the same.
cept panthers can take higher basking temps.

veileds are cheaper, and have the huge casque, but can be grumpy.
panthers cost more, esp if its a rarer locale, but have more color, and can also be grumpy

so.. get what you like more and feel comfortable spending.

Is it your first cham? Because I want a panther too, but since they cost in the hundreds compared to may Veiled (he was 85 including shipping) and I adore him. I think I'm biased thought because I love my Veiled AND my Graceful. But as camimom said, it's what you feel comfortable with. I personally like the Veiled's casque. tehe.

We have two panthers and they are both a pleasure. Each definitely do have different personalities. Both of ours seem happy to be held and now at over a year old, when either of us go into our bedroom (where we keep the Chams) they come down from their high perches to the lower ones and stand at the door. Always the side where they know the door opens. Our male stands at the latch and waits for us but is more reserved than our friendly little female. He always seems slower too lol.

We don't have Veiled's to compare the Panthers to tho, sorry. But we do love our Panthers and their colors are awesome to see. But as Camimom pointed out they are lot more expensive.

I would go see some, maybe when you see "your" Chameleon...you will know it :) Good Luck

I keep both panthers and veiled's and like camimom said it all in what you want to spend as their care is almost the same :) Can't wait to see pics when you get one. so keep us posted!

Yes it is, but, as a member of my local herp society a breeder is giving me a 3 month old panther for 55$ (One of his had a large clutch approx 3 months ago (Duh lol)).
