Vacation Dilemma: To Bring or Not to Bring

In two days I will be traveling down 3-4 hours away to stay in a lake house in the Poconos with my whole family! My dilemma: to bring Rorschach, my 2.5 year old Graceful cham with or to leave him home.
Everyone I usually ask to help take care of him (the whole two times I had to leave for a few days) is going to be going with me. I asked my cousin to help me out, and, though she is willing, I am not sure how consistent she will be as she is very busy; she can guarantee once a day for food and misting. I was thinking maybe I could take him with me. I am picking up a collapsible mesh cage (like those ones to hang on your porch for a bit), bringing only the essentials for the 4 days we will be gone.
SO, any suggestions? Is it better to risk the stress on him with traveling and staying in a new place so I can take better care? Or should I keep him in familiar places and risk inadequate care?

PROS of taking him:
- Regular misting and temp control since I will be there with him pretty much all the time
- Might be able to take him outside for more direct sunlight and dog-free exploring
- I could keep applying the Silvadeen cream from the vet to his wounds from abscess removal (not sure if cousin is willing)
- Added perk: Nieces and nephews might enjoy it :)

CONS of taking him:
- 4 hours on two separate days of him being stuck in a box while we drive down and back
- Making him adjust to a new environment just to change back shortly after
- I'd worry about his care and miss him too much!
*he is a pretty chill dude and seems to acclimate well the first time I take him somewhere... he just really hates the box. He loves to be out of his current cage, but is it worth it?

Better care with more traveling stress on him vs. Bare minimum care in a familiar environment
Open to suggestions!!

How long will you be gone? If only a couple days leave him if a week either have someone watch him or take him. I was gone for 5 days a few weeks ago on a motorcycle trip and just threw in a bunch of crickets. I have a mist king so all I worry about is keeping the bucket full of water.

Haha Nice! I will be leaving Monday afternoon, returning Friday afternoon.....I guess 4 days isn't toooooo long, but I don't have an automatic mister.
Thanks for the quick input!

Does he get stressed traveling? Tate loves it. We travel 4 and 1/2 hours to our vet all the times and stay in a hotel for the night each time. If he's anything like his brother he want need to be in a box. My guys have little trees that fit in the car for their rides. Only you know Rorschach and his personality and what is best for him.

I never thought of car trees!!!!! That's awesome! I feel like Rory would be crawling all over the vehicle Hahaha He loves to explore! Maybe I'll give it a shot and see how he likes it; I really want to keep an eye on his foot.

If he's that active try a small travel cage.

How did the surgery go?

Take him, but keep him in a box.

I sure wouldn't want to risk him getting loose in the car, under the pedals.... What if you had an accident and he got loose?

I would keep both options available: tree and hide box. Most likely, he will prefer a little of both. I am torn here as to advice. I ship a decent amount of chams, and even the young ones seem to handle it pretty well. I myself, have never left my guys and gals for more than a couple hours. I would start out holding and letting him view out the window and then move to a small but secure travel cage. I would make the travel cage smaller than the vacation cage. I was once traveling with a bunch of burmese and ball pythons and their food. A car head on'd me. The results were ugly to say the least. Everyone (human and reptile) survived, but have you ever seen a NC State Trooper holding a 14' Burmese Python who just ate 2 rabbits? They won't be happy. I would really considering try to find a responsible sitter or look for someone in your area to keep your cham at home with theirs, if possible. I would look on this site for locals. Not sure where Ridgway is, but there are a ton of decent people from PA on this site. I am sure, if time is on your side, you can locate someone.

Hey guys!!
Just thought I would come back to this thread to thank you all again for the advice. I did end up taking Rorschach with, and he loved the drive! I hung some vines with suction cups to the window, and he just chilled - wasn't too happy going back in the box when we stopped for gas! He mostly just hung out on my shoulder or my hand so he could stare out the windows just like the dogs hahaha
I attached a pic below... he looks a bit thin in it, but I assure you he has been putting on some weight since his wounds have been healing and he is done with the antibiotics. Heading to the vet next month for follow up, but he probably won't be on my shoulder while I drive - he is all over the place!
