So I was outside with my UVB meter and I measured the sun at 225. If we are shooting for @30uvb is it bad to have the chameleon outside in the sun if it's that strong. Not trying to sound stupid but just curious.

well yes..however..thats only if they have no shade to escape to..they know how much uvb and heat they need..as long as when they start to get too warm, or have had enough uvb that they can retreat to a shaded place to chill they will be fine...just like people..some sun is good..too much is bad..same with lizards too..thus why they thermoregulate, or hide under rocks, or in the shade of trees.

So then why dont people use MVB that have a higher output of uvb but dont cover as much space in the cage so the Cham can move to a shady place to thermoregulate?

in cages its easier to use a lower output setup that way you dont overdose them..in the wild there are thousands of places to take refuge from the heat or sun..in an enclosure..even if its large(to what we think) it still only has so many places to hide..

If I put my cage outside there is even less places in the shade for my chameleon to hide since he is in his enclosure. Also the output from the sun is double what a MVB outputs in 8.5inches dome lamp in my 24x24x48 enclosure.
