I have an 18" zoo med repti sun 5.0...my fixture is made of plastic..and some of the fixtures I see have a shiney metal reflective coating inside ..would it hurt to line the inside of tube fixture with aluminum foil for better output..because his highest basking area, branches and plants are about 10 to 12 " from the tube.and it says that it is effective up to 12"..that seems like it is cutting it pretty close..i was just wondering.the input would be very helpful..thanx again guys..

what wouldn"t hurt? the aluminum foil or the moving the plants..because the plants are planted and the ficus and the ubrella plant are as high as they are until they grow..

The aluminum foil won't hurt. You can also put 2-10" plant stands to raise your plants or tie vines up higher to the top with fishing line.

thanx.. because the foil looks alot brighter then without it..and I was thinking it would help him and the plants..

Using a reflective surface on your UVB lighting fixture/hood is a great idea.
I wouldn't worry about the distance so much. I think the closest branch to the UVB bulb in my enclosure is about 8" away.
