HI
iam asking about the UVB light some people said that if i have good sunlight in my home i can take the chameleon and get it in the sunlight is that means that i don't have to use the UVB light??????

tell me so i can take a good care of my chameleon and thank you:)

When you say, "I have good sunlight in my home...", are you referring to the sunlight coming through the windows and putting the chameleon where it can get the light through the windows?
Most glass windows block the beneficial UVB light, so it really wouldn't do any good to do that.

X2 what Lance said! Also, if buying a UVB bulb, I'd get a linear fluorescent (Repti Sun 5.0 is popular and available at most shops). Stay away from compact fluorescents (spiral shaped) bulbs. MVB are great sources of UVB (I like Mega Ray best), but too much heat production for most caging set-ups.

Chameleons Lover is in a country where obtaining a UV-B light, linear or otherwise, might be a bit difficult. Californians and other warm climate people, do you have any experience with relying on the sun (through a screen cage or screen window) and forgoing the UV-B light? Please chime in, if so...

I wouldn't trust that your cham will get enough UVB from the sun coming through your screen window. If you can't purchase a linear UVB at your local pet shop then order one online from LLLReptile.com or other sponsors of this site.

Another UVB bulb that can be found outside the USA is the ReptiGlo 5.0. It is almost as good as a ReptiSun 5.0 but needs replacement more often. If you can't find these types of UV bulbs in your area you can give the cham UV exposure through an OPEN window or put the cage outdoors for some time each day. Be sure the temperatures are not too high or low for your species and that the cham has some shade to retreat to.

i was referring that i get the chameleon out side the home in direct morning sunlight because where i live its humid and hot but in the morning its humid and warm

is that means i dont have to get a UVB light???????????

reptisun 5 or 10

what do you think is best w/ a 36 inch tall cage? the closest to the top is about 8 inches away.

If it is outside for most of the day, I personally don't think they need a UVB light, just being realistic here. Though it would be good to have one on days of no sunlight, or days that you are too lazy to carry their whole enclosure outside (I have a few of those days). Even IF that, uvb comes from the sun even on cloudy days, just make sure your cham is warm.

I see that you are in UAE. Do you have A Veiled chameleon. If so you are practically in their home turf. It wouldn't be a problem for it to be outside IF it is a Veiled. Just make sure he gets some periodic shade.

you mentioned no compacts, but what about mercury vapor bulbs like the t rex or the exo-terra solar glo bulb? I have a super duper tall enclosure. If this is off topic I apologize just pm a response if you want.
