uvb fixture?

pssh or anyone who knows of my chameleon. I wont be switching him over to that cage yet. I just need to calculate money and what all I need. Getting prepared:D

You want the light to cover most of the length of the cage. Try measuring the cage from one corner to the other diagonally and see if you would be able to fit a 36 inch bulb on it.

Edit: I just did the math and a 36 inch tube would be anywhere from 2-6 inches too big depending on the fixture.

I don't think so. I'm using a 24 inch bulb on a 16x16 cage so I don't have to buy a new fixture when I get a bigger cage.

alright ty :)
btw he just finished shedding :D funny to see him search for the sheds and eat them.

But that fixture should work??

If you took off that plastic part, but I think you can find one for way cheaper. I got a 24 inch one for 12 dollars.

I'll search around for 36inches for now but could you possibly give me sites or places to check?
where'd you get yours?

Go to Home Depot or Lowes (I'd go to lowes) and buy a 48" Dual T8 fixture. Then while you are there buy a pack of 48" 6500K color temp lamps. They will be in white and light blue packaging. The lamps are like $6.50 and the dual T8 fixture is like $13.50...

then buy a 48" T8 10.0 reptisun from LLL. it'll run ya like $22.50 I think.

Place one 6500K lamp and the Zoo Med 10.0 into the fixture and bam, LOTS O LIGHT for your cham.

I am assuming you are buying a reptarium, these are dark. If you can afford the 24x24x48" screen cages from LLL ($80 plus shipping) I would go that route.

Im confused. I already have a basking spot if thats what your saying. I am just looking for a uvb. (reptisun 10.0) 36inch I suppose until I get my cage and measure the top.

I already bought a screen cage. and i use house bulbs.

The 6500k lamp helps the plants grow better and gives the cage more light. It isn't a basking bulb.

give me links to the 6500k lamp? I really don't want to spend more money than I have to.

EDIT: Are you saying this 6500k goes in with the uvb?? if so I could possibly get it

Yes, they go together, which is why he said dual fixture instead of 'get two fixtures.'

will this 48" dual T8 fixture be too big for my screen cage I have already bought? its a 100 gallon size, 30"x16.5"x48"
confused

ok... your cage is 30" wide..... 16.5" deep. Your 48" fixture will hang over each side of the cage by 9"..... This isn't really a bad thing. I guess you could buy the 24" dual T8 fixture that they sell at Lowes. This isn't as cheap... but fits the aplication better. If you plan to buy another chameleon then I would stick with the 48" so you can span one fixture over two cages. If you don't plan to expand anytime soon, buy the 24" fixture. The 6500K lamps are sold in 24", I think....

Go to Lowes and say "I want a 24" long dual T8 fixture, where can I find this?" and the nice man or woman in the blue shirt with red apron will tell you were to go. The 6500K lamps will be in the light bulb section. This is normally near the lighting section of the store. At the stores near me its an end isle near the garden center.

6500K is a measurement of the color the lamp puts out. This lamp produces a light that looks white. This lamp has more blue. A normal light bulb is around 2600K... a more warm color. It has more red in the spectrum.

You want the 6500K for the plants to grow and it looks a bit more like natural light.

The one Lowe's by me did not have 24" T8 6500K lamps.... I dunno if it is because it is a smaller store?

They did have T12 though.... But they won't work in a T8 fixture.
