UV burns ???

Hi
As I have my UVB light in my viv I was wondering that if my Cham managed to get to it would it be to hot for him to have any contact with it?

Or would he relise that it's to hot for him and would he avoid the light ?
Just curious as I don't want to place the plants to high up if it would cause him any harm
Thanks

The typical UV lights (such as ReptiSun 5.0, ReptiGlo) we use in cham setups are not intense enough to burn on their own. I don't think the bulb itself gets hot enough at the socket to burn thermally either. If you were using some sort of high intensity desert type bulb maybe, but I haven't used these and don't know that much about them.

Doubt that the UVB light will burn him, but the basking spot will. No, they are dumb when it comes to heat, and will burn themselves.

My uv is inside viv but it has a reflector. Popeye often has a go at climbing on it but is usually uncessful. It doesn't get too hot.

I think my current lamp is a dessert uv as it is 10.00 UVB, I'm waiting for a new one which is 6.00 UVB would this be Oki for him? He is only 5 months :)

Thanks for replys

The 6.00 is made by arcadia and is the one which I am waiting for delivery :).

The reason my uvbis in the tank is because I have a wooden viv with only glass front doors. I have no option but to have the lighting inside.

Thanks for your input il just wait for my new bulb to come before I let him get to close.

Please remember shade too!
Think "Dappled Sunlight" --
That is the world Chameleons inhabit in the wild!:D

Patches of alternating sunshine and shade through leaves and the canopy of trees and brush.

Mimic that using Arcadia Lights, Plants and create patches of light and dark in your cage and you will be good. :):):)

Cheers!
