I know it's not best to use tap water, but what's an inexpensive way to get water to use for the mister? I can't keep buying drinking water... Does anyone do this?

I have only used tap water with my mist king and it has almost been two years since i got it - no problems. I haven't needed to or noticed any deposits in or outside of my 5 nozzles. The only thing i can think of is you might have different quality tap water than me, so if you get it from a well or have lower quality tap water you might have problems.

Nah, I don't get it from a well haha. It's from a faucet, though you are right. I think my water is kind of minerally.

I the main reasons why tap water is not really ideal is because the minerals in it will clog the heads fairly quickly and also because most tap water is treated with chlorine or chloramines (which can be removed). I personally buy the big jugs (for water coolers) of distilled water. One of those is only a few $ and lasts at least 3 weeks. If you do keep using tap water you will just have to clean your misting heads more often and treat your water with chems or by letting it sit (depends on what your municipality treats its tap water with) hope this helps a bit.

Where do you buy those jugs of distilled water. Obviously I could do a few dollars every three weeks, I just couldnt do 5-6 every week. Well, don't WANT to if I dont have to haha.

There appear to be a number of water companies in your area. You may need to call around to find one that will let you pick up water onsite (we have one that works like a gas station, you just pull in and fill up your container right in your car). One that you might check is the Good Water Company.

I use bottle water, my municipal water is heavy in minerals. If you buy the store brand water it would be even cheaper. Albertson's and Von's water is good tasting water!

yeah

My two veiled chams always drink tap water right out of their bowl in their cage..so they never had an issue but their is a reptile calcium solution which will take out and dissolve any chlorines so either way..i think your safe.

I do have that Reptisafe stuff. I know it made it safe for chameleons, but does it also make it safe for misiting systems?

heres a really cheap way to get filtered water. Go to walmart or a grocery store where you can fill up those big jugs of water for those dispensers. I have one in my house so i use that, the jugs are the expensive part but once you have the jugs its pretty cheap and its better than having all those plastic bottles. Here its 3$ for 18.9L which is usually alot cheaper than a case of bottled water unless its on sale.

ya what Jameleon said, around here you can buy them at walmart or most grocery stores.

Find out the mineral content level of your tap water with an inexpensive water test kit for aquariums (such as pH, hardness, calcium, chorines, nitrates). That way you'll know just what's in it and whether you might want to get a faucet filter with a specific cartridge. Or, you can keep the MistKing cleaner by occasionally running vinegar through the system. I would take my RainMaker down periodically, coil the hose into the reservoir, and run cycles of vinegar, rinse, chlorine, rinse, to keep it clear. Works great if you keep up on it.

I use distilled water from the little holland water mills you see everywhere. I pay about .25 a gallon. I think I use about 6 gallons a week. So for roughly 1.50 I water everyone.
