Urgent! My chameleon needs surgery or she'll die. Need advice please.

Poor ninja, she must have been horribly uncomfortable. I am so happy she is all fixed up. Give her love from across the pond.

Impressive!! Those are all immature follicles and none of them have progressed to having a shell develop. That means she had follicular stasis and would have never been able to lay them. You made the right decision doing the surgery 100% because she would have died without it for sure. Great job and glad she looks and feels good!

Poor Ninja. Her little body was packed. I am very happy to here she is doing well but now I am even more worried about my Lottie.

Thank you very much fellow chameleon lovers!

That's what the vet said, they are just like yolks... Poor girl.
I'm so happy you are saying this, I would have hated her going through something like this otherwise. Let's hope that recovery goes well, I'm still a bit scared as there are so many members here who have lost their chameleon a bit after surgery. She could not shoot out her tongue this evening so I hand fed her, I guess it's probably effects of the surgery still, hope so, at least.

Poor Lottie, I'm sending positive energy to her! Please keep me posted.

Glad to hear that the surgery was the right thing to do and that she got through it well. Hooe things continue to go well for her now.

Wow! Poor girl, that's a lot to pack in there. Glad her surgery went well, and hope she feels better and better each day.

Just checking in to see how Ninja's doing? I'm taking Lottie to the reptile specialist today. She's still eating and wobbling around.

Quick update

Unfortunately I'm bringing bad news, Ninja is not doing so well.
She is not eating and she cannot shoot her tongue out, I have no idea why but she can only eject her tongue an inch or so (I hand fed her). The vet has no idea why this is happening, the only thing he can think off is the calcium levels being low, however this is just a guess. We are going to give her a shot of calcium today just in case.
She has also stopped eating all together, I have no idea if it's because of the tongue or a different reason. As advised by the vet, I force fed her yesterday which was terrible, I could see how much she hated it, she probably hates me for the rest of her life now. She threw up everything she ate 5 hours later.
If all of this was not enough, her eyes are sunken in and she is acting very strange. She keeps gagging, as if she wanted to throw up her tongue, she has no food in her stomach so there's nothing in there to be thrown up. She also had her eyes closed for a bit today.
I can tell I'm losing her and I feel so helpless! Her colours are fine but she is dying, I can tell.
She had quite a bit of water today but she hasn't had much liquid lately. Hope the vet can come up with something today besides the shot of calcium. I have recorded her strange behaviour, if you want to have a look and let me know what you think, please do so. I'm desperate. She is currently in a smaller glass cage, it keeps the heat better and if she falls, she won't hurt herself much.
This is the link for the videos (one trying to throw up her tongue and another one with her eyes closed, she never has her eyes closed during the day, never.)

I am so sad to hear this news. I hope she does a complete turn around.

Ninja passed away

Unfortunately Ninja died a couple of hours ago. I did my absolute utmost but clearly it wasn't enough, I'm so disappointed in myself.
Thank you very much everybody.

Don't be disappointed in yourself. You did the best you could. Sometimes things can't be helped. When a chameleon gets follicular stasis there is no option but surgery and with surgery there are always risks.

My heart aches for you. I am so very sorry for your loss. You did everything you possibly could for her. Sleep tight Ninja. You will be missed. :(

Like everyone else has said. When you Do your best, and lose them, there is absolutely no reason to be disappointed in yourself. I've been following this thread and I'm so sorry to hear things did not end well. She will definitely be missed and was truly loved.

I'm truly sorry for your loss. May you find piece in the time you did have with her she was very beautiful by the way. :(

Oh please, don't torture yourself! Your care and dedication was ten times better than most people faced with the same situation. She was lucky to have you and probably had a much better life in general. You did nothing wrong and couldn't have done anything else.

Peace to Ninja and to you.:)

I'm so sorry for your loss! It was evident that you did everything you could and that you loved her.
