Updated his enclosure, any advice for how to improve it now?

I took the advice that was given to me on my last board. Thanks everyone who gave me suggestions.

I added in a perch approximately 4 inches from the bulb, he seems to love it!
Added another vine, and got a second gage for temp and one for humidity.

I am wanting to add in a real plant but I'm nervous about buying one that's been sprayed with any chemicals or pestisides.


Anyways! Have any advice for improvement?

i think you need more "hiding" areas.... its awful wide open.... more climbing areas... more vertical, more horizontal... want to give your cham the option to chose.... and definitely a live plant... try a local nursery... they know what they use.....

I recommend getting a ficus tree. I have used them for all my past chameleons, and it is a sturdy, hardy plant that is easy. It provides many hiding places. You can get small ficus at Home Depot, or some nurseries. If you get it from Home Depot, make sure you clean them off. Who knows what chemicals people put on those things?

I've used lowes plants a lot and as long as you repot them and wash them off for 20 min they work.
Agree that he needs more cover. When looking at plants remember to check if they are chameleon safe.

You have a huge amount of dead space, that being areas the animal cannot use since it cant walk on air.


More areas to walk and explore are needed. Look into Dragon Ledges made by dragon Strand cages...it would turn your cage into a serious habitat.

Your getting the right idea, still improving. Like recommended an appropriate size live plant will help with the empty space, use those vines on the floor afterwards and attach them up higher since that's where he'll hang out.
Now did you measure the distance from the branch to the top under the heat bulb? 4 inches is awfully close.

Im on my first Chameleon and just set up my guys cage not to long ago. I attached pictures of what mine looks like. I have 2 lives plants, branch stuff going across in places and fake leaves and vines. i left part of middle and top open for basking and very dense below for hiding. He loves it and is always in a good mood bright green and loves to bask. Even has a spot picked out now for when hes ready for bed at night. So far been a great experience with the chameleon.

Here's a picture of my cage and what I did. I have chicken wire mesh, so it's much easier to place my vines. But I went outside and used some crepe myrtle tree branches (They are verticle in my habitat). Before using them I cleaned them real good and let them sit and sun dry for a few days. It adds a nice look to the cage, it provides more braches (both verticle and horizontal!), and it's free. Of course make sure you know what kind of tree you are using and check to make sure they are safe. I'm not sure if there are any trees that can harm chaneleons, but it is always best to do your research before using. I hope you'll post new pictures if you add more to your enclosure

Hey Mom what kind of chameleon do you have. I can't really see it but is that live plant at the bottom "lucky bamboo"? I could be wrong but I believe those are toxic.

Beautiful enclosure. How do you clean it?

It is a bamboo. I had no idea it was toxic! I've researched many sites, but nothing really states if bamboo was poisonous to chameleons. One of those places I looked was even a forum aboiy reptiles: (http://www.captivebredreptileforums.co.uk/chameleons/8494-bamboo.html). I am taking it out asap! Thanks for that info, that's why I love this forum !!

And my chameleon is a Panther chameleon. And for the rest of the plants I have, they are all fake plastic vines and branches with the the exception of a few crepe myrtle branches I use.

And I clean my cage by taking the bottom off. It has clips that can come off to remove the bottom for easy cleaning. I then just place the rest of the cage on the table that it sits on until I'm done.
