Update on Trooper Miles :(

Hi, all. Today, Miles has been in a vertical position at the lower portion of his cage and hasn't moved at all. He ate a few crix earlier this am but only because I held the cup up to his mouth. He was at the top of the branch towards the basking light earlier this am and although I can't be sure, I think he may have fallen off. When I returned to the room he was where he's been at ever since

Any thoughts?

He does not look good at all. Do you have a vet? I would take him there asap. Maybe he can help to get him back from the long trip in a bag.

I've only had him for about 24 hrs so most of those questions don't yet apply. That's why I didn't post in the health section. I will if I have to but there's enough experience that police the boards to give me an opinion based on limited history and knowledge of his horrible delay in arriving.

He's a LT w/c. Basking temp at the very top is right now at 90, mid is 80 and lower part is 75.

The basking temp gets hot towards the end of the day and I'm not sure how to lower it. We are using appropriate lighting per scremeleons but how do you get it lower when it rises? The light doesn't have a 'dimmer', lol.

He's probably on the bottom to cool down. For basking I keep male panthers at 85 to 86. Either raise the light up off the cage, use a lower watt or turn it off.

Thank you! I guess the vertical position and not moving at all is nothing to worry about, then? He seems content I reckon, he's just extremely sedentary and won't move for squat. He did eat but we had to hold the cup in front of his face.

You can also get a light dimmer to conect to all of your lights at home depot or lowes. The one I got has three settings (kind of like a 3-way bulb). I paid about $9 for it and during the day when I see my temps get high or if I see my little one acting like he may be too hot then I turn the lights down.

Thanks. My husband reinforced the sides of his cage with plastic fencing tonight. It has large holes for his massive mittens. He began moving about on it as soon as it was up. He's now positioned vertically on a wide tree branch. He most def had to have modifications for the obese b/c he is a MONSTER! Can't weight to get his gram weight at the vets.

He really is a very friendly cham. I know he's still in shock and might not be showing his 'true' personality just yet, but he's VERY docile. Very agreeable and tolerant of all the adjusting and modifications to his cage that's had to be done since he arrived. Sweet boy and I'm so glad he weathered the storm to get here.

hi guys, he ate and drank this am but he's currently 'napping' with his eyes closed. no obvious signs of distress or discomfort.. do you think hes just worn out from the trip / adjustment to new place?

Have you been misting him? He is not going to to rehydrate after a long hott journey in a single 24 hr span. I'd be misting his cage heavily 4x a day min during this acclimation period. Also I saw your basking temps are a little too high. The hottest mine ever get is 85 and thats in the afternoon/hottest part of the day. I try to keep the temps between 82-84 most of the time.

He shouldnt be "napping". Thats not a good sign. I would contact the seller NOW and inform him/her of this situation. I wouldnt freak out just keep the seller informed and ask him/her if he has ever exhibited this behavior before.

Another thing you could try to help with hydration is put a plant in the shower and aim the shower head at the wall and give him a nice warm mist session for about 30 mins. Dont make it hott make it luke warm just over room temps.

Paige, he had a rough trip! I'm sure he's going to take time to get adjusted. Heck, he's probably still thinking "I'm not in a box! I'm not in a box!".

I agree with TPM's suggestion to contact the seller and get his advice. Make sure he sees the picture.

I wonder if giving him a sense of privacy might help? Maybe drape towels over a couple of sides so there's not quite as much to see outside the cage? It's just a thought.
