Update on Raine.....

Sadly Raine is not going to make it to her vet appointment this afternoon. When I woke up this morning she was very weak and was not opening her eyes. I managed to get her to eat a small phoenix worm by placing the end in her mouth when she opened it. It took her a few minutes but she finally got it down. I then used a dropper and put drops on her nose trying to get her to drink. I then smashed up a nice fat butter worm and put the bug goo in her mouth and she did not even try to chew it or swallow it. She is laying under her basking light with her mouth gaping open and I am sure she is dying. I just don't understand what I did wrong. I am so upset and I feel terrible and I feel like I should never have brought her home. I just wanted her to be healthy and happy.

Oh, Virginia. This is so hard. Having lost one not long ago, I can really empathize with your pain.

It's amazing how attached we become to these chameleons, isn't it? And you, I, and so many others here try so hard to do everything right . . . but sometimes we just don't know what "everything" really is. Try not to second-guess yourself too much--as much as we know, as much as we try, sometimes it just is not possible to save one.

My heart goes out to you as you grieve for Raine.

I'm so sorry to hear this, that poor baby, if she is going to go I wish for it to be fast and painless......thoughts and prayers to you and Raine.

I am in the process of sending the owner of the store where I purchased Raine an email. He sold me this chameleon before she was even a month old. I was told that she was a well established baby. I had her for less than a week when she started having health issues. Employees as well as the owner gave me incorrect information on the care of Raine. I think that it is better for me to email than to go talk to him in person because I am so upset. I wish more people would let these pet stores know when they are giving out bad information.
