Update after vet visit

Posted another thread about my male veiled chameleon having a swollen eye.

He had his vet visit today with the herp vet there and they think it's either an infection or a vitamin A difiicency. So the vet managed to open his eye which is now bruised :( and gave him a shot of antibiotics.

I have to baith everyday with warm water and go back Friday, if it's not any better, he'll be given a shot of some more antibiotics as well as a shot of vitamin A. But if that doesn't help, he'll have to have a small slit done and see if anything is going on behind the eye.

He's been weighed and is ok so not to worry if he only eats a few crickets as long he's taking in fluids. So hope things improve soon :(

He's back at the vets tomorrow, should have been today but the herp vet had an emergency visit so had to move my appointment tomorrow.

Anyway he's had a few crickets this afternoon but there is no improvement with his eye, even with the antibiotic shot :(

Unfortunately when reptiles get an abscess or local infection the pus is very thick, unlike mammals. So antibiotics have a really hard time clearing it because it's hard to penetrate. It often needs to manually cleaned out to get it to resolve for that reason. I worry that might be the case with your poor guy. I can't imagine how painful that is. :( Good luck and I hope he turns around for you soon!

Had his second vet visit today, had two vets look over him today and both agreed its a abcess since antibotics hasn't helped, so hopefully he'll be undergoing a lance to remove it.

To be honest I'm worried if its going to be to stressful for him, would having it lanced beto stressful for him and would be get through it ok? :(

I'm planning on taking him Wednesday to have it done, would have it done sooner but because the vet I go to, the reptile vet isn't there every day, she travels from vet to vet when she's needed and most of the other vets in the building deal in common pets like dogs, cats etc so she's not in again until Wednesday.

Is there a reason a abcess happens or is just one of those things? :(
