Uncontrollable

Hi!! I put a plant outside of my chameleon cage with the door open, and he eventually climbed out very slowly. I held my hand near the plant and he climbed on it. Once he was on my hand he was climbing so so fast trying to climb it seemed like towards the window which has a tree outside. I was doing the thing where you use your hands as “treadmill”, but he was climbing off the other side of my arm and was uncontrollable. He was moving so fast, so I put him back in my cage. Does anyone have any tips for how to calm him down and hold him?

Be really careful with this. They will jump off you. Until you build up trust to where they understand that being on you is a "safe" thing for them. They can move extremely fast when they want to.

@Gingero can you post your video on handling?

He looks a bit stressed... Having too many people close. Not being used to the people that are there. Being low compared to where your head sits up above them. Even the nail polish can throw them off. Being nervous or shaky. squealing with excitement... These are all things they pick up on. Your wanting to be calm and still. Not make him feel as though you are a threat.

Okay I put him back after doing that one time. He was moving very fast. So I need to build his trust so he is calm on me?
Yes... This way he knows your the good "tree" and that you won't hurt him. Right now your bigger and your a threat. The kids are a threat. I know my boy is much less tolerant of my daughter... When I got him she was 14 and her energy level was too much for him to handle. So he has never been ok with her handling him.

I did not know that about chameleons; every video I've seen has portrayed them as quite slow & deliberate, e.g. True Facts About The Chameleon

What you say sure applied to my beardie, though. It took (literally) months to convince him that I wasn't going to EAT him. It's not difficult imagine the same would apply to any small creature close to the bottom of the food chain. ;)
