Cool about the tail whips.. I had Savannah monitor who was very tame but on occasion would share his whipping power. Tegus might be different. Never had one or knew of someone having one. Just watch the whipping power on TV invasive species in Florida. But, those seem to only be black and white.

Since I did not have a Tegu ---had to look some stuff up. Found this:

It never ceases to amaze me the positions they'll assume for sleeping.
My beardie, Ol' Stinkeye, has been sleeping like this since around T-giving, sometimes with his tail bent like your tegu's.
