I have a big 4 foot umbrella plant i need to prune can i take a branch and plant it to grow another one?

Yes you can, but you need to go to home depot or any other garden center/nursery and get some root growth hormone. Use clippings that are no more than 6 inches long. Make your cut at a point where the plant has either a branch offshoot or a leaf. Use sterilized sheers to make the cut. Remove all leaves, leaving just one or 2 at the very top of the clipping. When you go to plant it, don't just ram the clipping in the dirt. Use a stick or something similar to poke the soil where the intended clipping is to be placed.

You want to sprout the softest part for roots to grow out of. A soft green end of a branch works the best.
