sorry if this has been answered but i am new to chameleons and i am having a hard time with the humidity of there terrariums, on here i hear alot about this ultrasonic humidifier i was wondering were you can get one in canada and maybe some install tips sorry new to reptiles as well

I would look for an ultrasonic humidifier used for rooms in the house. There are many brands and you can usually find them at large drug stores or home improvement stores. You don't want a "vaporizer" that boils the water to create steam...that's dangerous. A "cool mist" type, not an evaporative type is what you want. The mist will be about room temp. Evaporative humidifiers use a large replaceable wick...don't bother.

Look for one that has a round spout that you can open up all the way. Many have adjustable directional grills that you can remove. Match the spout opening to a piece of pvc water pipe or vinyl tubing. Using the tubing or pipe you can direct the fog into your cage either from the top or side mesh. Cycle the humidifier on a plug in timer. Then you'll have to experiment with it to determine how long or how often it needs to run to maintain the cage humidity in between the spraying you do for drinking. The fog won't produce enough condensed water for drinking really.

All too often, people are given the wrong info by sellers and the consequences can be unfortunate.


Panthers and Veileds don't need quite as much humidity as some other species, like Jackson's but, as you know they do need a certain range
For Panthers it is 50-70%
Veileds need 40-70%

Many people don't use a humidifier and instead mist the enclosure frequently ---which also provides drinking water for your chams.
Misting is done either with a spray bottle or an automatic misting system, such as the MistKing or AquaZamp.
Some people do need both a humidifier and misting, since the air is so dry in their homes that it's the only way to maintain the proper levels.

Live plants are great to use.
They help retain humidity, while misting water drops that form on the leaves will be used for drinking and they provide some hiding places and things to climb for your cham.

I wish I had read this thread before I went and bought a cool mist humidifier. I have enough humidity (too much actually) but I was hoping it would condense water on the leaves for drinking.
