two males together.?

So I'm reading a big care sheet on pygmies and have came up with one more question. Can males be housed in the same enclosure if its big enough.?

No...lol. more of a 45 gallon tank. I don't have room for a jungle in my house.

Males tend to seek each other out and will fight-fight-fight-. I even had a dominant female fight with the male. She laid eggs and then kept biting the male until I seperated. They were in a 18'X18X18 with lots of veg too.

It depends. They can be very difficult to see stress on since they are so small, so it's best if you don't. That said, some people have done it successfully.

Then I won't chance it. I don't want to risk stressing them out once I find some. The care sheet I was looking at said a colony of five or six would do nicely in a tank that big. I didn't know if that was one male and the rest female or a mix.

Typically no. However, a 46-gallon tank, you could probably get away with it if it was heavily planted.


I typically house my 1.2 or 1.3 sets in 12x12x18 setups...I would imagine a 46-gallon should have plenty of room for a 2.4 setup if planted densely enough, but it would still have to be monitored pretty closely.


HOWEVER I would still STRONGLY suggest against this. Purely the fact that one must ask this question means they do not have enough familiarity with the species to be able to identify if and when any troubles are happening.
