Turning this into an enclosure =D

I am going to turn this entertainment center into an enclosure! http://nh.craigslist.org/zip/1654206436.html It is very nice and solid wood, and great that it already has the doors! I can either make 2 cages or cut a hole through the divider to make one large one. What does everyone think? Input is greatly appreciated. I am going to cut holes in the tops too for screen and cut out the indented areas in the swinging doors and put screen there too.

I think it's a good idea! This is going to be very esthetic! In fact, i wish i had one too! ;)

However, i strongly suggest to modify the doors and the top to place screens on it, to assure constant air flow.

As for the separation, i think it depends on the species of reptiles you will put in it. Personally, with that setup, i'd put pygmy chameleons (perhaps a couple) in the left enclosure, while a Furcifer Pardalis could be happy if the size is good enough!

On the bottom, you could put a snake maybe! Or keep it the way it is and put some chameleon husbandry tools, to keep your room clean!

Nevertheless, i am really jealous and think your idea is a great one! :)

I would make slits in the sides and screen those up as well. Get as much ventilation in there as you can. You will need to clean it really really well.... godforbid you find termites. Next waterproof it with a couple layers of sealant.

Any thoughts for drainage yet? that bottom part in the pic where the dvd player is looks like it would fit a nice pan, you just gotta make the bottom slope towards it and make a nice hole. :)

Take maybe a nice forest mural or plant painting, adhere it to the back wall, then put the sealant over it. Will make for a very nice backdrop, hell, maybe even do that to all parts inside of it that won't be screen.

I am going to cut spaces in the top and doors for screen. The side with the glass door I will cut a hole in the side instead of the door. I am going to seal the wood and put vinyl tiling on the floors. I am probably also going to make one bottom area into a space for my corn snake and the other into a place to put my dubia colony's tank.

I don't typically worry about drainage too much, I use live plants that soak up most of the moisture. If it ends up being too moist in there I will figure out a way for drainage.

Be sure to post pics during the process and of the finished project. You know how crazy we all are about pictures! ;)

This is just me but in the walls I would put some screen just for more climbing and I just say that because my veiled would go crazy without his wall to climb up and down daily. I wish I would have thought about something like that to make into a cage! Smart move I would love to see pics when your done!
