Too Warm at Night?

Hi All,

I've been taking temp readings in my apartment for the last month or so getting ready to bring in my first cham and noticed that my place doesn't drop below 70F at night (and it's November). It normally hovers around 72 (with 40% humidity, which isn't bad) and I have adjusted my heating system as far as possible to lower the ambient, but I was wondering if anyone thinks this is still too warm for him to be while sleeping?

If the answer is "yes, that is too high", my next question is for suggestions on how to fix the issue. Moving locations is out of the question, and it's a bit crazy to run an air conditioner in the winter but I also don't want to trust an open window to bring down the temp either. Will he be O.K.?

Many Thanks,
Chad

Lol, yes you'll be ok with a drop at 70. Aslong as the temp does drop its healthy.

Ok. The reason I'm concerned is that this is the same temp as the lower end of the daytime gradient, and I want to ensure he gets his nightly cooling down period. Should I work on increasing the daytime low-end instead maybe?

This may be a question for the kiddos with more knowledge in the feild, but my opinion, it seems ok, how about a contrlled vent system throug a door?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that, but I was more thinking just putting a cold-pack on top of the enclosure each night and let the cooling air drop down inside (just to test, I don't have him yet)

Thanks for the reassurance. I don't want to bring a sensitive herp like a chameleon into a place that is anything less than perfect for him.

That will be fine. A drop of at least 10 degrees I think is best, but down here when it's too hot for my a/c to keep up my night temps are often not too different from my ambient day temps. It's not ideal, but it can't be helped. But my guys have been doing just fine like that for the last few years so they do tolerate it. :)
