Tongue problem veiled

Thank you guys for all your input. I have now bought a reptiglo 5.0 UVB light for extra UVB, but he still basks under the heatlight most of the day. The previous owner told me to feed him every other day 4-5 feeders and thats why i have been giving him less, i will feed him more and try to gutload the feeders better. I hope the little guy gets better.

Yikes! Glad you came here for help, that's what we're here for! ;)Misinformation is the biggest reason for incorrect husbandry. Kuddos to you for taking the suggestions with grace and putting action to them. I see no reason why he won't do well with an owner who takes responsibility.

By the way...we would love to see a picture of your guy. Also, if your feeling brave, fill out the How to Ask for Help questions that are stickied under the health clinic and let us help tweak things. It's good from time to time just to make sure you're not missing something. Chances are the feeding schedule isn't the only thing they weren't correct on.

Best of wishes for you and your lil guy and yea that's wat I ment was a 5.0 idk y I put 0.5 lol but as young as he still is I'm sure he's going to be great

Thank you! I hope so too :)

Thank you, I just ordered 100 dubias to get the feeding going, I just want him to be well and enjoy under my care.

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - Veiled Chameleon, Male, around 7 months old. Been in my care for about 1 month.
  • Handling - I handle him very very seldom. He is very scared of me and always wiggle as soon as I make any kind of movement in the room. If I stick my hand in the cage he becomes very dark and aggresive, hisses or he flees.
  • Feeding - I was feeding him crickets. I have now turned to dubias since I get very uncomfortable with crickets. Im feeding him 4-5 dubia roaches atm, will increase when i get a new shipment of feeders. The schedule is 3-4 times a week. I feed the feeders Oats and carrots. Sometimes Romaine lettuce and apples.
  • Supplements - I dust the feeders with calcium without D3 (Zoomed Repti Calcium) and Exo-terra Multivitamin (containing D3). I dust with calcium every feeding, and multivitamin every other week.
  • Watering - I mist the enclosure 2 times a day for about 30 sec. I always see him drinking water droplets at every misting.
  • Fecal Description - Firm black poo, with white urine (or whatever its called).
  • History -

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Glass enclosure, Exo-terra 24” x 18” x 36”
  • Lighting - I have a Reptiglo 5.0, and a exo terra solar glo 80W. They are on fro 8AM to 8PM
  • Temperature - The temperature at the basking spot is 90F (32C) Cage floor is cooler but I dont know the temps. Night Temp is room temperature: around 70-73F.
  • Humidity - I currently have the hygrometer at basking spot, so it shows 40% when the heat is on, but otherwise I try to keep it 60-70 which i see it is when the heat is off. Sometimes I mist to much and it rises to 80%, I try to get better at knowing how to mist properly. The glass enclosure and plants helps with humidity.
  • Plants -one Ficus plant and one pothos plant.
  • Placement - Its located in my bedroom temporarily on the floor until I find a bench who can hold its weight. Near the window who is open a little bit now on the summer, but no fans and such.
  • Location - Scnadinavia.

Here's a picture of the little guy:

And heres a picture of the enclosure;

You sure are brave posted a picture of the glass don't you know that the glass Nazis will hunt you down lol im just playing your set up looks good and your cham does not have any obvious sign of calcium deficiency

Hahahaha the majority of people in Europe keep their chams in Glass enclosures with no problems so let the glass nazis come :)

Great! What to look for if you want to know if he has a calcium defiency?

A crooked cone bent legs double knees or elbows weak grip or loss in energy are all things that would make it pretty obvious someone else could probably tell you more ways

Yep! (y)
Also, without seeing actual signs of it, possibly more important is to see the warning signs from husbandry issues. Not having the correct lighting and supplement schedule, and feeding bugs that are not properly gut-loaded. It is more proactive and meant to prevent issues before the signs are evident. ;)

It's perfectly fine for your humidity to increase to 80% it should actually. It should spike to 80-90% when you mist and fall to around 60% when it's dried out. Squinting can be a sign of vitamin deficiency including both vitamin a and d. If they have a calcium deficiency they can also get constipated easier, have trouble opening their eyes, shoot their tongue, or have a softer jaw. Earlier signs of mbd include weakness, grabbing their own body parts when climbing and not correcting immediately, falling for no apparent reason, trouble pulling themselves up or climbing in positions that are technically harder to climb in but would be no problem if they were healthy.
