Tips for travelling

Good Morning everyone

So my boyfriend and I are going to visit my mom for a week this Friday. I tried to find someone to look after Loki for me while we are gone but I just wasn't comfortable with my options so I am taking him with me. He is just over a year old and extremely grumpy but healthy. I bought him a mesh collapsible Exo terra home to live in while we are gone which I will put branches and plant life and what not in. I'm not worried about that part.

I'm concerned about the drive there and back. It is about 7-8 hours. I have a small box that I have poked a hole in each end and put a thick branch through for him to perch on. And some paper towel in the bottom. So he will be in a dark place for the trip, on the backseat of the car. We will be making stops along the way and its going to be HOT HOT HOT so would it stress him out if I took him out now and then when we stop, or just leave him be?

Any suggestions/tips would be great!!!!

Thank you!!!!!!!

I would put paper towels at the bottom and get them a little wet to help keep him cool. If you have good AC in the car that'd be good. I've also seen people bring their mister and mist along the way.

I don't the 7 or 8 hours is too terrible :)

If it were me, I would not open the box during your drive. Just make sure that he is nice and cool in your air conditioned car. I think that opening the box and waking him up periodically would cause more stress than just leaving him in the box to sleep the whole trip. They are in a dark box for longer when being shipped, so 7-8 hours will not be a big problem.

I recently made an 8 hour drive with 2 chams, 2 leopard geckos and a dog... I put the chams in separate boxes with a branch and a towel in the bottom and put them in the floorboads of my car. When I got there I made sure to offer plenty of water and fed the next day as usual. Mine did fine, and I never got them out of the boxes. Heat is what you need to be concerned with though. I would not leave him in the car, box or not, without the A/C on.

Thanks everyone. Our car does have A/C so that's good. I shall wet the paper towels and be sure to do a good mist once we arrive and have him set up. And I will not disturb him in our travels :-)
