Tiki Tiki Reptiles Blue bottle question.....

So i bought some flies for my Jackson Cham from Tiki Tiki, and about 100 pupae arrived in a little sack. Does anyone know how long it takes for the flies to emerge? And do you need to keep them at a specific temp?

What i did was taped the sack to the back side of the enclosure, open, so that as the flies emerge they'll fly out into the enclosure and my Cham will catch them at his own pace....

Blue Bottle Flies in pupae or maggot form can be kept in the refrigerator, and will last for weeks. I split my 500 into 4 ounce deli cups, put the lid on, and take 1 container out every other day. If you have maggots, it takes several days to have them pupate, and several more to have the pupae hatch into flies. If they are already pupae, in a 75 degree room, flies will be there in a few days.

Once they start hatching in the 4 ounce cups, I open the container using the lower screen door so they fly up to the light, and release some into each cage.

If you release all of them at once, you will regret it....:D

O..K.......I'm not sure what was sent to me then.

They look like little brown kidney beans....

Those are fly pupae. :p

If viable they should hatch in just a few days to a week. (Unless refridgerated) Keep 'em at room temp, or higher if you want them to hatch faster.

Most likely your cage is to damp for the flys to hatch. I would get them out and put them in deli cups as Nick said

Some of the flies hatched today, and i let them out into the enclosure.

My Jacksons' loves hunting them down!

I had my pupae in a plastic container that was not see-thru so had no idea how many had hatched into flies. I put the container into my cham enclosure, and carefully removed the top.....to my horror out flies about 50 flies!

He's currently gorging on them but i have no idea how/if he'll eat all of them.

Is there anyway i can gut load them to keep them alive longer?

Also, some of them are already squeezing thru the screen top and into the house.:(
