This normal with juvies? maybe WC?

Everytime I enter the room or get about 5 feet from his cage he just runs away and hides. He is terrified of me and will not let me at least look at him. I was wondering if maybe he is wild caught rather than captive bred like "he is supposed to be". Is it because he is 4 months and he will be less frightened when he gets older? He just seems way too afraid of me. I mean I dont torture him when I see him. Any suggestions?

some are like that......bring him food each time and try to hand feed him. That way he'll learn to associate u with food and will hopefully be more receptive to your presence.

Sounds normal to me! Amy was just the same, and she still does it now if you move too quickly past her cage, lol! Now she's bigger she can't hide so easily! She's not so bad with me, but she tends to hide from strangers who she is not used to. I think it's still early days yet for you and your cham. He may still be settling in - they need time to adjust and get used to you and your hands invading their space!

Is this the juvi that you got on 10/31? If so give him time to settle in. My panther took a good week or 2 to stop hiding and running every time I came in the room.

Some take longer than others to get used to their new surroundings.

Yea I got him on the 29th I think. So I guess I wanted to hear another opinion. Still, they arent as friendly and lovable as a bearded dragon. I love Koopa but, he is not as majestic! lol

Loveable...no you are right there but time will tell if he will be a friendly or give me half a chance and I will kill you cham Do as fearaffect suggested, it will take some time and patience but its very rewarding and may swing him to the friendly or I can tolerate you side

My baby veiled is the same way. She runs and hides when I walk over to her cage. If I offer her some food, then she'll pop her little head out of the leaves and eat it, but other than that she just runs. If I can trick her into running onto my hand, then she usually calms down a little and I can hold her, but I don't do that much because she might jump and fall.

Just give it time to become accustomed to its new surroundings and your presence.
It instinctively see's you as a predator/threat. Eventually you will cease to be a threat
and become associated with food appearing. At best, a tree that moves and gives food.

Typical veild behavior, almost all veilds are CB unless they come from the wilds of FL, so no worries on that.

I have beardies also, yes they are sweeties. I also just rescued a dragon that will jump to the top of the cage to bite. I have never seen that and I have raised a lot of beardies!! I breed veileds, all of whom are completely individuals. Some learn to like people pretty fast others take some time. Just hang in with him and he will get the idea.
