How can i tell if my Chameleon is happy?

I mean he has everything he could want, real ficus plants, vines, gets misted 3 times a day & has dripper, gets varied food in the form of crickets meal worms & hoppers but sometimes i worry that he's bored

Does he get to free range or have a large cage? I can tell my guy's happy because he smiles allot! Jann

I think Chameleons are one of the easiest animals to "read". In this forum you will fid what are the tipical colors for a resting cham, depending on the species you have. For example, I have nosey be panthers. So I know my male is happy when he is intense blue, with a white bar across his body. The females I know they are happy when they are light brown and one of them actually has a blueish color. I know when something boders them, when they are very dark, they kind of dock their bodies, and sometimes they try to hide.

Also if your cham is alert, eating well, drinking water and is not trying to escape the cage, then you can think is happy.

I would mist him more than 3 times a day. I would get him a female or two once he's of age. He would definitely enjoy a nice warm shower, just NOT often. A fat Horn worm once in a while would do some good.

I've actually dipped a cricket in some squeezed orange juice straight from the orange. And fed a Dubia with some starwberry guts on it. I don't do that anymore though, but they seemed to be cool about it, and took more.

I'd change up the gut-loads, I mean change to something else everyday. Just make sure your weekly scheduel is well balanced, but give him a variety.

Give your dude ALOT of hiding places.

Does your little guy have a fan in the room he's caged in?

Make sure you don't have A/C or a heater right near his cage.

Never have a mirror in his own sight.

Don't handle him without "NEEDing" to do so.

Offer him his dripper early in the morning for a good 20 min. Than a few more times through out his day.

Make sure the water in his dripper, is NOT too warm, and definitely NOT too cool for his liking/tolerance.

Misting is great for him, especially if it's long enough for him to relax and "soak it up".

Don't leave the bottom of his cage wet, keep it spotless.

Him having the same spots for temperature change is great for him, he should have a consistent routine.

When you do the whole cage cleaning, try to put everything back in place where it was, what he's use to.

Ever tossed a moth fresh from the pupae in his cage?

If he's young you should try cup training him, but as well as free ranging a few. When they're healthy they're active as youngsters. When they're healthy, I'd say they're happy in their home that you provide for him.

But remember, he's NOT in the wild making his own decisions.

thank you for all your responces

He's in a 100 gallon flexarium, he doesn't have anything like a mirror that he can see etc he's not near a A/C unit etc and i clean him out once a week, he has lots of hiding places (where he likes to sleep) i've even got him into knowing when its bed time and he heads straight for his sleeping place.

I think as he's my first Chameleon i'm just worrying to much.

this is him
