This changed my understanding of Vitamin D3 synthesis

I read this article by Dr Francis Baines today. If you don’t know who that is, you really should. She’s advanced reptile lighting a great deal. This article changed or at least put into question my views on vitamin D3 synthesis, how oral D3 might affect synthesis, and hypervitaminosis D. Very good read

I've been following her for 2 years+ (since I got my beardie).

This is the video that introduced me to her. Blew my mind. Went out and bought a solarmeter shortly after and I was so happy I did. I was told to buy the wrong bulb strength for the fixture I had purchased. My uvb was lower then a 1 at the basking branch.

The UVguide site has changed quite a bit since it first was up.
It sure brought our attention to what was causing all the eye issues though from the lights. We were. All trying to figure out how suddenly there were so many conjunctivitis problems with chameleon eyes...and those of other lizards too.

Likewise the reflector issue. If that hadn't come to light, a lot of reptiles mayn't have gotten sufficient UVB. IDK that it would have caused MBD—those beardie folks use calcium w/D3 almost daily—but other species...

Unfortunately, a lot of the site is still "being updated" ...since 2005!
Hence, finding articles elsewhere.

I never use D3 any more often with any of the reptiles I kept.

I wish they had followed through more on the site and it had been updated properly.
