thinking of Banana roaches - DO IT - a quick vid

What a great video, it allayed a lot of my fears about them. Do you have something on the sides of the bin to keep them from climbing up?

Nick do you still have any to sell? I have been thinking about it but was worried about the climbing and flying.... Seems like I really don't have to worry that much about it.

I am actually moving to Puyallup in a few weeks from Renton and I'd love to look at starting a colony once I get moved.

I have lots of the small GBR's, but my Giants are just turning to adults. No shipping costs for you, Nickylou!:D

Great video. :) Such a drastic amount since you starting from 30!!
I'm hoping to see that with my dubia roaches...

Are they hard to take care of?

Where did you buy the warming tape from? I currently use a heating pad and its barely warm to the touch.. I'm doubting its even enough for my roaches.

Also, where did you buy your isopods? I grabbed about 8 from outside of my house and I'm considering just buying them online so I don't have to worry about parasites.

.. I think my boyfriend would kill me if I brought any more bugs into the house, I don't have enough though... haha. I need to catch up to you Melissa.

they are really easy to care for, just be sure to keep them moist and warm. I got my tape at a show in Columbus, Ohio, but I think some of the sponsors sell it - its great stuff :) my isopods, I started by catching preg/ females, once they had their babies, I let them go- they have live birth , and kept the babies - I do not worry about the parasites - they could be in the dirt- or the air or who knows - I have seen so many times ppl who ONLY feed purchased feed items, and their chams still come back w/ dirty test - I would worry more about heavy metals in the adults, that is why I did not keep any - but they grow really fast, and all that you see were the starts of the babies I kept :) and yes, you can never have to many bugs ;)

Nick, do you feel it is worth having both sizes ? I am pretty sure I have the reg/ size - do they look very different ? can you put up a pic of the giant ? I may try the giant later this spring - and tell Laurie to get some of these - LOL I keep telling her how good they are :p

Ok so my issue is I am not a fan of roaches! I grew up in the hood and I spent most of my life trying to get rid of them!

But I love my Golem and I want what's best for him! I tried Dubia and he doesn't want them as much as I try he will only eat 1 out of 5 I offer him and even with that it will take him a day or two.

Would the color call him more?

Plus I live nyc and we have really bad winters would they do well here?

Stop. It. I already have too many bugs!!!! hahah. Well, if some of my guys dont start eating the red runners, I may sell the colony and get the green bananas instead, although my boyfriend thinks i should sell them and get nothing to replace them LOL.

I would order a few, and see, I started to get them because I get chams sent here that ppl got at shows, and they just go down hill, so they send them to me, I have yet to have one refuse these - and some of mine have eating issues, and these are soft, and they can eat them with no trouble :)
we just got done with 18 below 0 temps  I am in Ohio - I keep a heat tape under them, they were as happy as could be ;) I think you should try it :)

How do you tell if it's a female and pregnant? From the looks of it, I have two adult size isopods, a few smaller sizes and a tiny one. I wish I would have went out and found some more and its probably too late now since its 10-20F out!

Can the heat tape be purchased at a homedepot? Or is it a special kind of tape? Does it have to be plugged into an outlet? How does it work? Thank you :)!

I'm gonna look for these containers as well. Would love to see your lid as well Nick, sounds good. And not stinky? Count me in? Nick - are the reg size ones small enough for a baby veil (3 months) or should I wait a while for him to get a little bigger?

The smaller GBR adults are about 3/4", but they are not very "crunchy" so i would think the younger veiled may tackle it. The nymphs would be more size appropriate, you would need to cup feed, they are fast!:D

if you look under the isopod, you will see a yellow/cream colored sack - like this one, those are her eggs, but she will give live birth - then just let her go, and keep the young, that one gave birth right in my hands !! - for the tape, go to a show, or order it , I do not think you can get it at a store? I never looked for it at any, so maybe check- but yes, you get little wire things to hook it up, and then just plug it in - :)

Thank you so much. I took a look at my isopods and none are pregnant. It's nice to know how to find out now. :D I'll have to go searching for some when it gets a little warmer.
