Thinking about trying again.

well. I just got a new job and i am saving up and thinking about getting a new male veiled, of course i will be saving up extra cash before i even jump into getting another cham, for vet, food. etc. I have the cage, and plants with lights already from back in September. I would like to try and get one from a breeder or a forum member sometime in mid November. What do you think. and I know that I wasn't the best at it the first time around with my old male, but I won't succeed if I don't try.

Save up as much as you can before hand, $500 for an emergency vet bill would be good, and that doesn't include all the other supplies you will want.

You do need to find a vet that knows what they are doing, as about pricing, and get information.
I still don't recall if you ever got the other chameleon you had to a vet, but I will assume you did.
So, based on the cost of the last vet visit, have AT LEAST that much on hand and the rest in the bank, perhaps you can get a little interest on it while it's in there.

Get a savings account to put left over money in. You won't regret it.

alrighty! thanks syn! i will save up about $700 for the extra fees. :) your a big help.

Hope you have put time and effort into learning more about chameleons so there are no repeats of accidents, etc.

Good luck, and as always feel free to PM me.

Save up and...

Yes, save up a Vet fund and just make sure your Husbandry and care are correct which I am guessing you should have a good handle on by now but don't hestitate to ask if your not sure! Let us know when you get your new guy and good luck.

If you are really serious about taking good care of a new chameleon, I would not have it shipped to South Dakota in November. jmo

ha yeah. i was thinking about that just a little while after i posted this thread. Because in all reality, 1. it would cost about the same price for a baby veiled from petco/petsmart as i would to buy from a breeder thats with shipping. 2. Its already snowing here and its freezing out. thanks for pointing that out!

You will get a better quality chameleon by purchasing from a site sponsor.

Just wait until better weather, otherwise you'll be spending your vet money early.

You can't get one from a show? I would see what shows are driving distance away or what breeders might be driving distance away. I'd steer clear of the big petstores.

that is another option! :) thanks Syn!

There is no Reptile Shows in South Dakota or anymore this year with in a 400 mile radius.

Have patience. If you buy anytime soon while the weather is cold, you probably won't have enough saved for a vet visit anyways. Wait a while.

Good luck when you get your new cham :) I'm sure you'll do way better this time! just like everyone else said, save up and be patient.

I hold onto about $1000 for emergencies, but I try to push the fund up to $2000. You never know what could happen.

In 2009 I ended up paying $1500 in vet bills, ouch.
