Things you need when your home has power outage

This is an interesting topic as I have considered this, quite often. I live in a place where winters can be harsh and worry about losing my animals if I lost power for any more than a couple of hours.
I think the first obvious thing is to have a generator. Of course, this is not possible for everyone.
For me, I have several appropriately sized insulated animal shipping boxes with heat pads at the ready. If I lose power, I gather up all the animals and put them in heated boxes until power is restored.
If the power outage is more than 24 hours, I panic!!!!

i use a battery back up on my reptile cages. in case of a outage i'll cover the cages with blankets to help keep heat in. i also have a big gererator to run the furnace, TV, fridge/freezer, and my animals. but if i'm not home to kick it on the battery back up will last til i get there.

If you do a forum search you'll find threads discussing all this. The topic comes up pretty much every year. One idea that doesn't always come up is to have some sort of plan with a friend or neighbor who happens to have a non-electric backup heating source like a woodstove. In a pinch you could take your temp-sensitive critters in their own small travel cages or boxes there. Your chams can go without UV light for a few days if they are already healthy. They don't need to eat much if any for a few days especially if they will be kept at lower metabolic rates in cooler than normal temps. They'll probably just nap most of the time. Water is more of an issue so be prepared to either hydrate them with a dropper or provide humidity in their travel setup.
Actually I would worry more about a power failure in a heat wave. Much harder to keep a temp sensitive cham cool enough without power (or ice or chilled water, unless you always have some frozen blue ice packs ready before the power failure happens).

I have a Generator and I also use my truck. I hook a power inverter Cost me 60.00 up to the battery of my truck it has two one to start other does the electronics and I run the truck and power from battery. Also since its a Truck the alternator will also recharge the battery some. I run a few hours on then off if needed. It works uses gas but so does a generator and not everyone has one or can.

I run all my power cables for my cage through my UPS which keeps power to your stuff when power is gone. I live in an apartment so thats the only option I have since I cant get a generator.
