Thermometer/Hygrometer choices?

I am having trouble deciding what to use and from what i have read and past experiences the zoomed or any other meters work these are just 2 i fond from a quick search. Anything good that will work will be fine for me i just dont know what to choose.

Get Acu-Rite.... I prefer digital over analog.

I was leaning more to the digitals but was kind of afraid of all the water in the area

They way they work is that they have a probe that goes inside the enclosure and the actual reader stays outside...

i use weather channel units , like I use for my house. Digital accurate and waterprroof. It even tells me when my cages are raining and sunny

if you have a bit more to spend you should look at the caliber III hygrometer and a infrared thermometer (temp gun) , just a suggestion.

Not trying to hijack but since it has to do with the acu-rite. I went to my local Wal-Mart and can't seem to find the one everyone recommends. They only had this. Are they the same?

That will measure the enclosure temp, using the probe, but the humidity will only be read wherever the unit is, (outside the enclosure). I believe the Accurite probe reads both temp and humidity!

What ever brand it will say on the box if it measures inside/outside humidity temp if it has those options. Just look for what you need. Which would be an outdoor temp and humidity reading unit.

the problem with digital thermometer/hygrometer units that only have one probe, is that the humidity is measured at the display unit, so to get a humidity reading from inside the cage, then that is where you need to place the display. to further complicate things, these cheaper (non laboratory) grade digital display units, usually dont deal well with getting sprayed or high humidity placement.
personally i would get the zilla thermometer/hygrometer, it has 2 seperate probes , 1 each for temp/ humidity, each one on a 56" lead, so you can place the display unit where it belongs (outside the cage).
it also records high/low of each, so you can tell whats been going on while you were gone.

the advantage of probes is you can place the sender exactly where you want it.
i usually place the temp sender in the sweet spot of the basking zone, and use a second temp only digital therm with single probe ($5-10@freddies, radio shack, walgreens, etc) for the ambient air/general cage temp jmo

why use the ones with probes anyways? They have remote transmitter units for same price if not cheaper.

Most people buy the units that measure indoor humidity only not knowing any better.Thats why they screw their displays unit up by putting it in cage. You need the unit that reads outdoor humidity as well as outdoor temp.

There is no wires no plugs just batteries and digital accurate readings. Of indoor/outdoor temps and humidity both.

pretty simple and the transmitters are meant to be outside in the elements so they last.

How do you guys set up your acurite's? Just picked one up and strangely now both acurite's are saying the probes are a lower temp than the indoor. I have them set just above the enclosure on the screen roof with the probe where she usually basks. Humidity reads around 50-60 after a misting.
