I have the large repti breeze cage, i am getting a XL cage now for my veiled. I am a new ower only had him for about a month, and have had alot to fiddle with and get his cage set up somewhat correct.. i had a 75 wat basking bulb but took it out even tho basking temp was at 85 again read alot 60 was best.. the picture was taking when i set up with 75.. it is changed now.. basking area was 85, i think i had it to close to basking area and might have burnt the cham minor i think.. please help for any suggestions...also could someone tell me how old my cham is as well.. also i have a live umbrella plant in my cage and i have rocks over the dirt noticed some mildew coming up on the poop that was close to the soil, then when i lifted up the rocks seen some small bugs in the dirt. Should i spray some type of spray to kill the bugs or will it be ok that they are in there? I just need help in general with everything.. lol i hope the pictures help

I don't see a burn but a closer picture might help. Also, Please fill out the How to Ask for Help form that is in the Health Clinic, that way we can help you tweak anything in your husbandry that needs it. Without knowing what you are doing we can't really offer much for advise.

I will say that your branches seem too far down for him to have gotten a burn but it's not impossible. The wattage is really not what is important. The temps that it creates are the important part. If a 60 isn't getting the basking spot high enough, then you go higher.

Do not use any type of spray to kill the bugs! Best thing to do would be to take the plant out, repot it with organic soil making sure to rinse it off very well even cleaning out the roots and spraying them as well.

I think your little guy is fine. My Cham got a small burn not to long ago I felt so bad :'( he's fine now! And I agree your vines look low enough that he shouldn't burn!

Basking temp for a veiled cham if I recall is in the 90's for an adult. 60 is way to low for basking. If what occurred is from 75 temp then it's something else.

How low from the bulb is the basking spot? is this where you are measuring? my cham got too close and burned his cask once with 103 F but it was minor and looked like he was shedding there 24/7 for several months until it healed. Healed up perfectly, you could not tell he ever burned himself.

Perhaps it is starting to shed? I could be wrong, but I don't believe 75 F will burn a cham.
