Here is a few pictures of my favorite petstore for chameleons and reptiles. In fact, this is the petstore i will most likely buy a couple of WC Verrucosus (see: https://www.chameleonforums.com/picture-check-up-petstore-45275/ ). The name of the petstore is "Animalerie Dyno", in Quebec city, on the Soumande street. By the way, animalerie means "petstore", and dyno refers to dynosaurs.
Since we often hear about bad petstores, it think it's nice to mention the good ones too!
This is what i wrote in the thread above:
"This is a petstore that is a small corporation in Quebec, and trust me, this is the best petstore i have ever seen for reptiles. Even the other petstores that have the same name aren't as good as this one! They have over 30 chameleons for sale at the moment, and probably over 60 snakes!
I spoke a lot with the manager, and he cares more for his reptiles than for himself! He gives them silkworms without counting them, he dusts the crickets, yes sometimes there are a few chameleons in the same enclosures (big enclosures, not small), but as soon as he sees any sign of rejection he separates them. He even mentionned that the two full grown Melleris he had for sale he secretly wished to never sell them haha! He also hide his gravid females from the public, to avoid to stress them!
At the end, the petstore is not perfect, yes they are in glass enclosure and i'm not a big fan of them even if they can be Ok sometimes, but it's far better than what i have ever seen before! "
Just to add a few more infos, their employees wash their hands, they only get WC that are in good looking health, they have UVBs and heat bulbs, they clean the enclosures everyday, though they should clean the windows more often (you'll see with the pictures). They also have Melleri babies from their adult couple, and also a clutch of Pardalis. The sellers and managers won't tell you a subspecies if they are uncertain, etc.
By the way, today i traveled 500km to go to their petstore for an hour only, talking with a seller and seeing the Verrucosus and their other chameleons. Of course, it wasn't my first time there, otherwise i wouldn't have drove my motorcycle under the rain (a little) just to go to a random petstore!
My point is to show you how high i think of them. However, don't get me wrong! I know it's not perfect, but for a petstore i think they do fairly well, and i'm not affraid to leave my maybe future chameleons there for a week before picking them up! I just wish they would put a little more green in a few enclosures, especially LIVE green. That's their biggest lack in my opinion.
Now, time for the pictures!
This picture under is a very social Pardalis. He was on his branch and went to see me and my girlfriend and looked like he wanted to hug us! We thought it was cute!
Baby Melleri from their own clutch!
Big chameleon! I mean, one of their dogs roaming the backstore!
They really let the male and sometimes the female roam in the backstore. The male is always there and has his own hot spot and everything!
Dusted crickets!
Cute little Pardalis
Well, this is it! I hope this bring faith that someday more petstores will be like that!
