The right Materials (Mesh)

Can somebody help me out with what is the ideal enclosure mesh to use when building? I want to avoid rough mesh like window flyscreen to prevent noserub, But maximise light and airflow.

I was thinking something like green shadecloth?

I have seen images of Cham cages that used 'mousewire' (grid of 10mm square) but not sure how appropriate or not this might be? noserub/rust etc.

My other thought was a flexarium (sunning cage of soft mesh used outdoors with various herps)

Any feedback please?

I just used window screen when I built my cage and lined it with the plastic fencing. I made an album of the building of the cage under my profile. If you are interested, take a look.

Hi,

I use aluminium-mesh. It's quite better than plastic screen. But it coast a bit more. In Germany round 5-7€/m.

Alum Screen is great...
Pros... Insects cannot escape, and it looks great.
Cons... Chams who climb screen can lose nails.

The other option I would recommend is PVC Coated Wire Mesh.
Pros... Your cham can climb it freely without putting all their weight on their nails, causing missing nails.
Cons... You must cup feed as the holes in the screen are too big to keep feeders in.

Best option....

I have seen some people use Alum Mesh, and then line the intererior with PVC Coated Wire Mesh, This allows them to climb the sides easily as well as being able to keep insects contained.

Good Luck...

though most of my cages are pegboard/wood (not screen) I like coated wire too, like quality bird cages are made of.

Hi,

Drosophila come through the alumesh. I think the safest is V2A, it's made of steel and nearly perfect in every way,...but it is very very expensive.

Thankyou all for your responses. Ill look at those links now. Thanks.
P.s. Expense is no problem, The chameleon cant pay and I owe him his life!

Sandrachameleon, Im very curious (pegboard is not an option in my climate) how do you find that works with so much moisture? or are two sides screen?

This is the best way to do it.
I picked up a roll of 24'x48" green pvc fence for under 10$.
I did most of my adult cages(about 12) with one roll.
They have a much easier time climbing the sides with this installed on the inside.
A lost toenail can result in an infection.
