Leachies are known for being docile if you work with them.. The Vorax, not so much.

Arg! I went to my little local herp shop for some feeders today. The guy there had just sold a pair (male and female) adult GTs for 900 out the door! He had pics and yep they were GTs.:mad::mad:

For 900 I would have found the money.

Pure, I find that the CH and CB vorax are much more calm than the WC ones and actually very handleable. All of my babies started out a little jumpy (but which ones aren't?) but they are cool with being held.

That's cool. I was just going off of what I've read.

The supposed temperament is what was keeping me from wanting Vorax. It's enough that the Chams wanna eat me. I may have to get a couple from you then. :D

Yeah, most people are a little freaked out by the vorax with their bulgy eyes and weird skin (like a leachie only without the rolls of skin) and they do look kinda mean (especially the bigger males), but they are just misunderstood. :) The babies are little cuties, though. My "moms" are egg-laying machines and I have a few babies available (a couple of them spoken for already) and more on the way.

Look into my eyes....... you need vorax geckos...... you need vorax geckos..... you need........ :p

I'm going to be getting 2 female ciliatus here in the next month. I've done a lot of research already, but is there anything any of you would like to tell me from your experiences that I might need to know?

Thanks in advance,
Andrea

*watches Kitty* She just yawned when I clicked on this thread! :)

They enjoy height, things to climb on, vines, make sure you don't feed crickets too often (dust everytime you do), and get REPASHY crested gecko diet.

They're going in a 24"hx24"lx12"w screened enclosure. I'm hoping that's big enough for two females? If not i'm fine with just having one. As for the Rephashy I'm already getting some :) do you suggest the crested diet or the base and necter mix? and so how often do you feed crickets? I was thinking twice a week. is that too much? Also, I don't really want to use a substrate. Is it alright not to?

Well I figured 20g for each adult female, and 10g for each one thereafter. Most people turn a 20g on their side or do something like that.. but figure a foot or two would be great, the more the better.. but make sure they can find their food!

I feed the crested diet. The base and nectar mix is a bit confusing to me to be completely honest, and if you mix it wrong the nutritional value may be off.

Twice a week is okay as long as you dust them well. Phosphorus to Calcium ratio should be good, (just like chams) to make sure there is no MBD.

How many do you plan on feeding?

Mine! Mine mine mine!! :) I call the best lookin' one already. :D

I'm actually pretty excited about getting some. I couldn't wait to clean their enclosure. So this weekend I finished breaking down my 29 gal SW tank and cleaned the sh*t out of it.

Would a 29 be too big for 2 babies? I have a 20 long that is set up and running, I was reserving it for plecos, but will use it for vorax babies if you guys think that would be better, least till they get older.

Just two females. I have a ledge type of cup holder i got from work so they can eat and drink without going to the ground. I'm not interested in breeding any time soon.

I was reading about the repashy and it said if you were feeding crickets and the diet I could use a 50/50 ratio for the base and necter. If i'm wrong I'd rather just use the complete diet as well.

and again, is it ok not to use a substrate? I hate messes XD

For baby-babies I use Kritter Keepers. 10 gals are too big for anything under 1mo IMHO!

Sometimes the ledge feeders are bad if your crested is shedding and can't get up to it.

Repashy is very trustworthy. Go with what he says!

You can use paper towels, most people do to monitor pooping.

I do this in all cages I don't hand feed or weigh often.

cool tyvm syn :) I have dishes for the bottom incase they couldn't get up there. I didn't know that about the shedding. Thanks for telling me. So a 5" gecko might need to be kept in something smaller first? bah, i should have considered this. Well I can get a 10gal no problem. Would that work for 2 babies?

I keep two babies that are under 10grams in a 15gal tall or 10gal. Something like that.
