Temps

Hi I am at the exciting point of buying all the equipment for my future chameleons enclosure, ive ordered the enclosure, light fixture, bulbs and vines but im looking at thermometers and wanted to know which you think is the best, i was looking at a 2 in 1 thermometer and hydrometer but its one that fits on the cage and i was wondering if its better to get a temp gun? that way i can check the different points in the cage ie, basking middle and bottom, can you do this with the stick on ones or do they stick to one place and only tell the temp of the area its stuck on?
It feels like forever until I will actually purchase the chameleon but i need the set up perfect first, this is my first charm and reptile at all so i do not want to put any animals life at risk.
thanks
Claire

I personally use a digital thermometer/hygrometer it has a probe that I can tie to whatever branch or spot and get the temp. They are very inexpensive too. I got mine at walmart for$12.

I'd stay away from the stick on or dial type thermometers and go with digital. Personally I like the exo terra hygro/therm, it's digital and has a probe that measures temp and humidity. Just make sure to keep the probe out of the line of fire from your misting or it will be inaccurate. I'd get a second digital thermometer with a probe to put at the basking site. I put the hygo/temp probe about 1/3 to 1/2 way down in the cage, that way I get a good idea of what ambient temps and humidity are.
