Technichal Lighting Question...

For keeping Chams inside all of my research has said that the Tube style UV lighting is the way to go. I have heard that this is not just because they give the best output without messing with the temps to much, but also because other styles maybe harmful to your chams. When I started researching for my Beardies way back I read that the compact coil style UV bulbs like the power saver bulbs you see around a lot, are actually harmfull to your animals eyes. Chams having such sensitive eyes I figured it would be the same with them. Has anyone done any good research on this and why some bulbs are better or why some are harmful? I would love to read a good article that describes just why these bulbs are bad for animals... And after that I want to know why they can get away with selling it! Mine get real sun... I prefer tubes anyway, but am just ticked cause I see pet stores pushing these things all over the place.

I notice all the warnings are for the Zoo Med Compact... The one I see sold most would be the Exo Terra style compact... (Looks like a corkscrew). Is there a difference?

Exo-Terra

I have used these bulbs on some of my cages for years now with no problems at all. However I have been switching over progressively to repti-sun 5.0 because I like the blue spectrum and I read that they are better for chameleons. They are a little cheaper too depending on where you get them.
