Tamatave/Ambilobe breeding....

idk. alot of people here like to keep thing pure esp due to females looking alike and breeder ethics and such and such. most people will say get a female tamatave to breed with the male vise versa.

You should do a search on this kind of topic as it gets talked about on here a lot. A couple questions I have for you are:
Have you ever bred panthers before?
Are you prepared to care for up to 60 babies?
What are you going to do with all the mixed females? - This is what scares a lot of ppl. You might easily sell the males, but look at breeder websites - the females of even PURE locales are still the last to go, never mind the crosses.
Why are you wanting to breed?
In my opinon, most of the crosses have been done. Look around. There is every combo of ambilobe with everything else and then some. More specifically check out the Kammerflage site. I think they even have an ambilobe x tamatave x sambava etc for sale right now. If you just want to see if you can make a different color it probably wont happen they way you are invisioning it. I like crosses but I think it should be left to experienced breeders with YEARS of experience, that know how to keep records etc...just an opinion though...

Iv done two clutches of blue bars so far, not really doing it for money after i raise them i usually sell them to the local pet stores or friends for cheap. I enjoy breeding just for the thrill of raising these guys through a whole life cycle But i just got a new male and would like to experiment

haha that is exactly what I am talking about. If you sell a cross female to a pet store it looks like any other female so the pet store may pass it off as a pure to get more $$$. ugh...this is a hard topic...long story short the reason ppl are against crosses are because it is getting out of hand. Everyone is breeding crosses, pretty soon no one will be able to get a female panther and know 100% what she is. It is concern that eventually the original locales are going to be lost due to all the crossing. If you just wanna have some little ones to take of, I would stick to 1 locale, again my opinion. There really aren't that many tamatave's being sold so you would be better off $$ wise getting into that anyways Having really nice pures of a not commonly seen locale can fetch some bucks...just a thought!
Edit: oops...I didnt see the part where you weren't in it for the money. Good luck whatever you do, but try to look at the big picture of the captive bred population of chams rather than just what might be fun. This hobby is getting slammed all the time for ppl being irresponsible in one way or another.

Now you fall into the other side of the cross breeding issue. How are you to now be sure that a female Tamatave is what the seller is stating and not a cross.
I would be veryy frustrated to invest in the female ,then incubate 8+ months for them to hatch. Then wait few more months to notice that the offspring have cross traits. Or worse, sell them as pure and have the new owner discover the possibility of it being a cross and tarnish your credibility as a breeder. When it was an honest mistake on your part.

From what i have seen .People thend to hold more trust in a WC/CH over a CB Female to predict Local.

i know a forum member who has some tamatave babies idk if you would be interested and idk if the person will selling anytime soon
since tamataves are not as common in the US i think you should try to get a female tamatave to hatch some more tamataves , then if you have time and money and know who to sell, then cross if you want just be responsible in ensureing all babies will be labeled as crosses
